They don't look too good in this picture either :D

The rest of the car looks rather good though!

The language barrier prevents me from knowing more about the Japanese cars. At present I know of only one Interceptor in Japan (last I heard was 2002). That one was a USA Convertible originally.

I don't know that green Interceptor III. Not sure where the notion of it being an SP comes from. It hasn't got the bonnet, grille badge or wheel medallions of an SP. No SPs were sold new to Japan.

The Interceptor II featured on the April 1970 Japanese magazine cover is not identified either. The only two Interceptor IIs which went to Japan as new models both went out before April 1970 and neither is known to survive. Allowing for the colour shift in the image (the grass should be green), I don't think the car would be either of those two.

The details of all 38 Japanese deliveries (and of course the Healeys) are in the databook.

Tell you what, though. If you play around with that magazine cover and change the hue and colour balance to the point where the grass is green, you get a pretty good match to Calsage for the paint. 3552 - the second production RHD Interceptor II - was Calsage and was the first of the two Interceptor IIs sent to Japan. It left the factory in October 1969 and could be the car in the photo. However, 3552 had fog lights from the factory and they are not in the picture, although they could have been removed. Among the first batch of RHD cars - the first 20 anyway - they managed to crank out samples for all the main RHD export markets including Australia, Japan and Hong Kong. It would seem logical for the Japanese demo model to have featured in magazine reviews, but the language barrier prevents me from saying anything definite.

The plane in the pic has a tail number registered in Japan so methinks your guess is correct Richard.

I believed the BRG Interceptor to be an 'SP' as it is marketed as such!

Felix, the green Healey 11861 has just popped up on ebay. It is the only Mk I Healey I have traced for Japan out of the 62 sent there. It is offered with delivery to Los Angeles, although why an American buyer would pay extra for a RHD model I do not know. Of the 57 Mk 2 Healeys sent to Japan, only two are known to me - one as likely broken. In addition, I know of two other Mk 2 Healeys in Japan, one ex-USA and one ex-Iran.
