115/3363 getting closer to being on the road again

Post by alanB »

After my delightful neighbours reversed into my front wing in a transit and then drove off...

I decided that I might as well go the whole hog and fix the other body work issues. Starting with the near side

those bits of metal on the ground are all that was left of the sill. But luckily the floor wasn't too bad and cross members were fine.

The bonnet and nose needed fixing

The original dent that started it all

and finally the offside

Now, at last she has gone to paint and just in primer

No work on the rear hatch required? see the stainless is still in place.

Rear hatch is hopefully being replaced as the old one is pretty much rusted out from the inside & the heating elements have been removed (!) from the glass. I've a replacement hatch in much better condition which I'm hoping will be an OK fit - it looks to have already been reused once already as the original metallic blue was replaced by tangerine. These seem to have been a rough fit at best from the factory judging by the thickness of lead in the replacement hatch, I've found a body file is the only way to remove paint without generating tons of toxic lead dust.

Alan, if your other hatch doesn't fit well let me know, I have a blemish free hatch which we could try. Hats off to you for completing your sill work, not a job for the faint hearted. You've teased out that dent rather well too.

Thanks Paul. I've put some time into fixing up the replacement hatch so I'm hoping it will fit OK but its good to know there's another possible solution.

Hi Alan

Amazing how these little jobs spread. Congratulations on repairing it all so quickly.

I see you have a Jensen Healey as well. Is it a black one?

The Healey is (almost) malaga blue. After I bought it I discovered a previous owner was a stunt driver which explains some of the repairs I've uncovered....

Hi Alan

I only asked as last time we were in Ireland with our Healey we met a someone with a black Healey from Wicklow. And I did not think there would be many Jensen Healey's in Ireland.

If you look on the wikipedia page for Jensen Healey, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jensen-Healey" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; there is a black car registered in Kildare, probably the one spotted.
