Mendips Tour - 22nd & 23rd April

Post by Clive Bishop »

Just an initial shout out that a tour weekend on the Mendips and North Somerset is being arranged on the Saturday and Sunday of this weekend.

Current Plans:

Friday - Arrival to the Double Tree By Hilton, Cadbury House Hotel, Congresbury, North Somerset (Please see details below). You are free to plan for other accommodation.

Saturday - Tour starting from hotel to include the winding Mendip Hills and Gorges, local lakes and reservoirs, Wells Cathedral and of course the home of Cheddar Cheese. There is also being planned a tour of Thatchers Cider Farm with tasting before the tour ends back at the hotel.

Sunday - Today we will be joining the BRIMAR Lions charity tour which has a £12.00 per car entry fee that goes to charity. This tour starts next door to the hotel and will cover the back roads around North West Somerset and end up on Clevedon Sea Front, which means easy access to the M5 etc when this day finishes between 1500-1600. This days route is not pre announced and so you will on get it on arrival at the day of the event, so hope your map reading skills are OK. This is the "Drive day" and so the event is always well supported with over 100 cars of different ages - the JOC is being welcomed with open arms and the organisers have indicated that we will get good exposure with the TV and press that feature the event.

Full details of the Saturday will be announced closer to the time.

It is hoped that a variety of cars / people from the Wessex region will join on either or both days.

Costs for the tour will be advised in the new year but we know that the BRIMAR event is £12.00 and we are waiting to hear about other options we are adding.

The hotel base for those not in the region is:

Double room bed and breakfast £119.00 per night
Single room with breakfast £109.00 per night.

There are obviously other alternatives but that will be up to individuals to make that choice.

So more details next year but look forward to seeing some of you on the tour...

Clive,

A suggestion, put this in the events and not just in the Wessex area section?

I did respond but seems to have got lost.

Yes put it in events first and will be on the JOC website later this week.....problem with events page is that it easily drops down as people comment on other things.

OK, booking form for the tour for each day is available and the hotel is taking bookings now. I will try get the form as a downloadable document off the main JOC website from the events sections, but in the meantime, please email me on Wessex@joc.org.uk

For local members, you have the choice of joining either or both days.

In all cases more details will be sent for those attending closer to the time including any optional evening gatherings.

Please note that if you are booking the hotel for the weekend then please do this direct with the hotel, the booking from is purely for internal JOC Wessex region administration for components of the day time activities

I'd like to thank you all for coming, we had a great time and Danielle, Connor and Nathan had a great time doing the photo's on Saturday and hoping they were always one step ahead of us.

The photos that they took, plus Terrys friend who was taking a lot on the way and jumped in and out of various cars during Saturday (Thank you for letting him do this) will be uploaded to the following link.

If you would like to also do the same, then they are centralised whether it is video or still images. All pictures from the photographer's are royalty free and so you can download them from the site free of charge.

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/kkr534bci79p ... 8TrJa?dl=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If you have video, please post the link in the file called "Video Link" in "Saturday"

Glad you are all back, for those that didn't come, you missed a great weekend (but you may have had your own anyway) and to all - see you somewhere, some time in the future.
