Norfolk Drive it Day.. 24th April

Post by colin7673 »

The Jensen Owners Club has been invited to Kersey Mill,, This is a new event as most 'Drive It Days' there isn't always somewhere to go. unless there's a local show or you get in the car and drive to have a 'Pub Lunch'.. This was the base behind this event.. Below is a copy of the Press release that has been sent to me.

Drive It Day for Vintage and Classic Cars
at Kersey Mill, near Hadleigh, Ipswich, Suffolk, IP7 6DP
Sunday 24th April 2016
1000 – 1700 hours
Location: just off A1141 follow brown sign onto A1071
The Copper Kettle Cafe and Kersey Mill will be hosting the ‘Drive-It-Day Rally’ The cafe providing a full range of refreshments including breakfast, barbecue, pulled pork baps, drinks etc mostly locally produced.
Facilities adjacent to The Mill building includes clothing, flowers, craft, health and beauty, hairdresser and The Venue (a wedding and events venue) which is also having an open day providing undercover facilities.
The Drive It Day is an annual event throughout the UK to commemorate the 1900 Royal Automobile Club 1000 mile Trial that left London and travelled via Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester to Scotland and returned via many British towns back to London. 65 automobiles were entered for this pioneering event and remarkable 46 made it to the finish line. The gold medal winner was Charles Rolls of Rolls Royce fame in his 1899 Panhard 12hp Tourer. This year’s event has attracted international recognition from FIVA and will be the UK’s Flagship Event for the 2016’s World Motoring Heritage Year.
Kersey Mill in conjunction with Historic England will be having a special opening at midday to celebrate and admire the current progress that has been made towards the total restoration. The water wheel will be turning and it is almost 100 years since it was fully operational.
We are expecting a large turnout of sensational old cars and if you are an owner of such a vehicle please join us.
To date we have 12 marque motor clubs to support the event, it should be a wonderful display of special cars ranging from an early Stanley Steamer to Model T Fords, Lagondas, Rileys, Daimlers, MG’s, Rolls Royce and Bentleys etc.
Even if you are not an enthusiast it is sure to be a great day out and we look forward to welcoming you. Admission free
