I have an Accer super stock coil 8140 fitted to my Int !!! 440. It does not run very well. On the coil it says 12v.
Does anyone know, is this coil supposed to run with or without a ballast resistor?
I do have a ballast resistor fitted.

No mention of a Ballast Resistor here

So maybe that is your problem?
Put 12v straight from the battery to the plus side and see if it gets any better.

A balasted coil runs around 9v and is fitted to provide a better spark on start up by feeding 12v direct to the coil bypassing the ballast resistor. If you have a 12v coil fitted fed from the ballast resistor the spark will be weak so as Steve says try 12v direct to the coil and see if it improves.

Maybe late, but I have that coil on a car with 440, and IT use a resistor around 5ohm, if i remember correct it have 7 volt on the coil..
