Don't forget that the air cleaner lid is "Jensen only". The Mopar lid is too high and Jensen modified it in the middle - obviously under a press.

The only way to fix my carbs was to buy new ones and the ProMax tuning kit.

I believe the new outboard carbs have the adjustment screws outboard making adjustment do able while on the intake verses having to remove the outboard carbs. The original outboard carbs did not make sense where the air fuel screws were originally located. Some say the new 6 pack is not correct. It is not original in my way of thought but as correct as modern paint urethane verses old style lacquer. Does not make sense to use an inferior product. Only should make a difference when two cars are in competition with each. Opinions. We all have them but may differ. I do feel a six pack car should have a six pack carboration to be correct. Sort of like a twin cam car with the standard block .By the way the air cleaner is an easy correction if it does not clear the hood. Mine did clear. RacerJoe

My six pack went porous and according to rebuilder back in 2004 was dangerous and prone to catch fire. Eventually I went to specialist who fitted a 780 street avenger holly on top of an Edelbrock 400 Torker. According to this bloke a sixpack can pull around 1300 cfm at full bore. A 440 engine can only take around 900cfm with a six pack and same rate applies to my current setup. Horrible fuel consuption but rat quick......not that I drive over 60 kilometers per hour.
Totally reliable. No starting problems or trouble getting tuned here. (No one wants to look at 6 packs and consider a six pack as an anacronistic set up with no benefits.) Appears 6 packs were banned from new engines in USA and Jensen bought all 232 440 engines complete with 6 packs. I believe most were a problem. My history file shows first owner sent a letter complaining he could no longer afford to drive the SP as he was only getting 6 miles per gallon. Rear carbs replaced. Kenny38 8)

I think my good friend RJ has succeeded in getting much better gas mileage than you describe.

In fact if you think about it, with a progressive linkage only opening carburetors as needed, effectively you could be driving around with just a two barrel.... if you can keep your foot out of it.

I can’t argue that tuning a six pack configuration is likely a lot more challenging, but my guess is that they went away because of the 1973 1974 fuel crisis and emissions requirements, vs any reliability or performance concerns on the part of Chrysler.

But what do I know – I don’t have one!

Chuck. You are exactly correct. The demand by the goverment and air pollution standards did In the 6 Pack. That’s why mopR sold the remaining 200 plus six pack motors to Jensen. As far as tuning them is simple as following molar instructions and not winging it just to
Make a dollar or Money. I feel a lot of 6 packs were removed by lesser mechanics for them to make money on something they had more knowledge about. The 6 pack is beautiful to see. RacerJoe

Another response on 6 Pack. My setup runs great from dead stop all the way up. The two out board carbs haver a hole drilled in them allowing more air while fully choked. Also I am running a factory cast Iron intake with the Mopar US factory Air Cleaner no dimple top. No clearance problems. The center carb has no hole drilled in the butter flies. Also the carbs are set up for the altitude 880 feet above sea level If your carb setup stumbles on initial acceleration check with a feeler guage the accelerator lever to activator .015. Mine was off and it would stumble on initial go. RacerJoe
