Pictures of a Super Bee 6-Pack Set Up for our SP Friends
Very nice, and nicely maintained 6-Pack set up. I don't know much about this configuration, but the owner claimed to. I also don't know if this 6-Pack setup is identical to the setup that our SP guys have.. These carbs were Holleys.
He told me that each of the carbs has an idle circuit. This is not typical when considered vs. the traditional setup where the "primary" (center) carb sets the idle, and the secondaries only come on with throttle demand.
He claims that this 6-Pack setup is not that hard to set up, as long as you continue to operate at a single altitude. He says it is hard to set them up to operate well with significant altitude changes...

Hi Rocky. Hope you are well. That is indeed a nice setup. Claimed 390-BHP was similar to original SP's. As I understand it a majority of SP's 6Packs were unloaded due to "problems" My car's original owner sent his car back to Jensen with a plaintive note that he was only getting 6 mile to the gallon. Mate of mine had one fitted to a S3 (don't ask!) and it caught fire while having a service. However I wish I had a 6Pack to match my abs Kenny38

Yes it's the same as the SP's, Rocky thank you for sharing I notice the SuperBee in your pic is a Manual Stick Shift one... such a shame they didn't make the Jensen Sp with that option ... Anyway I building my own manual version 440 and a manual linkage operated 6 pack,mines running 3 x 500cfm Holleys... but time stands still for no man and my Six pack is still holding the Bed Up!! >>>

I am glad these pictures were of interest.
Kenny - you can hold off on posting a picture if your 6-pack abs... but I would like to see them on Grant's car!

Ahh Rocky there was a time........ Winter on the way for you. I can't say i envy you as I spent a number of years in NY anf Chicago. Enough snow to last me out and the ^%$#* cold!! For some reason the crime rate always goes down in winter in various areas of the cities!? Kenny38

Do not wish to seem thick here, but isn't that the same engine as in the Interceptor, if it is, could we not have the same gearbox, the Chrysler 833 4 speed in our cars without to much trouble?? Unless you need a clutch.

Hi Colin, yes you can, that is what I have just done to one of my Mk2 Interceptors.. put an A833 Manual box in it, and the other Mk2 I have put a 5 speed manual box in it, the hardest part was making the clutch pedal, the rest was quite plain sailing, both to be road tested yet though ... The main reason for the six pack vacuum system was to match the auto box, a few six pack systems existed by various manufacturers since the 1950s, but they never worked well with the auto box. That is where Mopar got it right.
As for idle system, all 3 carbs should be set up for idle then it works right.
My old heap goes quite well, with reasonable mpg, and we last set up the carbs over 20,000 miles ago and they are still in tune. I suspect a lot of the problems Jensen had was either an overheating distributor (mine has an MSD), petrol evaporation with the manual pump or (dare I say it) a complete lack of understanding of setting it up to match the gearbox changes etc.
I will say that I find it the best carb system i’ve ever had on a Jensen for a mix of power and reliability.

The Super Bee in the pics is a 1969 car so the engine will be a slightly different spec to the Jensen SP engines as the specs changed yearly as they developed, the Jensen engines were 70/71 spec (same except pistons and head gaskets) but the power outputs were much the same.
Also the claimed 390 bhp was a bit conservative as cars were being taken from show rooms and testing nearer 425bhp but Mopar insisted on the less than 400bhp figure due to insurance rules at the time.

I was unaware that they were even making the 440 in 1969, I thought the Mopar yanks followed suit using 383's and then the 440's etc like Jensen did.. but to be honest I wouldn't know as I don't follow them and never really have.. but I do like them.. especially the ones on a stick!!

I’ve been writing an article for the JOC mag, i’ll finish one day. The 440 six pack was meant to be the ‘road friendly” Hemi replacement.

Also the SP engine needs to be matched to the SP auto box, different shift patterns etc. On a manual it can have the manual linkage.

Grant that is a fantastic picture. It reminds me of FF no 255, which had the 383 rebuilt by Geoff Hauser, Edelbrock Alloy 383 Six Pack manifold similar to yours, (the Six Pack had vacuum secondaries which I now know were for the Autobox). There are manual gearbox and FF transfer boxes for Range Rovers, but never one for the FF, but it could be done. The FF was modified to have twin coilover shocks at the rear and a massive axle, design done by a suspension specialist, and had a massive hand fabricated header system that went into a 2" or 2.5" collector on each side of the motor. externally the car looked 100% stock. I was forced to sell it on before I could see how bonet clearance worked out. Anyway, there are 383 Six Pack solutions out there for early cars too!
