johnw wrote:Grant that is a fantastic picture. It reminds me of FF no 255, which had the 383 rebuilt by Geoff Hauser, Edelbrock Alloy 383 Six Pack manifold similar to yours, (the Six Pack had vacuum secondaries which I now know were for the Autobox). There are manual gearbox and FF transfer boxes for Range Rovers, but never one for the FF, but it could be done. The FF was modified to have twin coilover shocks at the rear and a massive axle, design done by a suspension specialist, and had a massive hand fabricated header system that went into a 2" or 2.5" collector on each side of the motor. externally the car looked 100% stock. I was forced to sell it on before I could see how bonet clearance worked out. Anyway, there are 383 Six Pack solutions out there for early cars too!

Any more info on this Johnw, so was it your 383 FF what became of it ?

I sold it in 2005 or 2006 and everything went very quiet from then on. It was a fully restored, painted shell, almost a complete car just missing bumpers, some electrics, and needing reassembly. The original interior was perfect. The car had been the subject of a very expensive restoration in the 1980s, one partner of a law firm had spent over £50K on the car, the work was almost finished, and the other lost patience and sued, so the story went. The car and interior were sold separately, but Medway Interceptors managed to buy both, and I got the car from there, along with FF 289 (which was rusty but more or less in one piece) in one of Chris's Harbour's special package deals. It should be quite a car still if it has been properly stored. There was no sign or rust anywhere on the body at all, although there was a reaction in the paint over the lead where the front valance joined the wings.

However, Peter Rothery has just posted a link to an SP and an FF for sale by Anglia Car Auctions. The FF on the ramp could be that car! It went to Yorkshire as well!

Rocky. I had my six pack Drophead out for about 200 miles Sat. The first 80 miles I got 4 miles to the gallon. That was a 33 percent improvement from the 3 mph I got. Did some tuneing at a mech shop on the road and got 15 mph for the rest of a 120 miles I drove. Talked to Art at Six Pack Performance yesterday and hope to get north of 18 mph. He has had a shop specializing in Mopar Six Pack goodies since the late 70’s. Same location. One hell of a nice guy. Racer Joe

RJ -

That is some serious improvement!

I have been tuning my Demon 1900 now, and I think I’m much improved from my previous 14 mpg. Need to drive a bit more and get some real numbers!

Joe/Rocky, are your numbers converted to UK mpg? or still US. If US Wow! 18 mpg US is better than 21 UK so better than Philips Injected Overdrive car. If UK I would still think 18 is very good?

Rocky. Thanks for the post. I have had a Six Pack set up on my Drophead since about 88-89. Never had any problems in shifting and plenty of power. I ran into a company Six Pack Performance in Alberque New Mexico the owner Art is a great guy and all he does is Mopar Six Packs. He knows his stuff. I am getting ready to go to the Jensen East. Hoping for 18 mpg and to get there I will write back and let you know. Have fun on your Panthers trip. Joe

Thanks, Joe -

I am looking forward to seeing pictures from the entire group on the East Coast Run. It really sounds like an awesome trip....

(Actually, you are making me want to start thinking about sourcing a 6-Pack manifold and carbs to put on my Interceptor 111!)

I have a 74 Interceptor with the factory cast iron Six Pack and the traditional Six Pack air cleaner with AC and automatic tranny. No problems I am aware of. My mechanics are of the caliber that if there was a problem they would just make the adjustment and charge me accordingly Drives like the lead horse in front of the herd Of horses RacerJoe
