Holley street avenger?

Post by Samsung »

I have a 383 that have been completely refurbed but kept standard.

Rather than refurbing the Carter AVS I would like to fit a holley street avenger but which one should I buy?

I'm not up on what CFM is so I need a bit of help.

670 cfm is all a mild 383 needs.
This in-line CFM calculator says a 383 at 6,000 RPM and 100% VE would use 665 CFM, and 565 CFM @ 85% VE.

So this 670CFM Holley street avenger with electric choke from summit would be ok for my interceptor MK1 ??

Most 600CFM carbs are listed for our engines in other Chrysler models, Edelbrock 1406 has been used by many, is there something the Holley has that others don't?

Are you using the stock intake manifold? I am asking because there may be a difference in the carb bolt pattern. If you measure from the center of one carb bolt hole diagonal across to the center of the other bolt hole and it is about 7-1/2", the Holley carb will fit. If it is about 7" then check if the intake is drilled for the wider bolt pattern, if not you need a carb or an adaptor that will work with the narrower bolt pattern.
I am new to the Interceptor, but the old Mopar muscle cars also would need the throttle lever adaptor (Holley 20-7 $9.56) to correct the throttle linkage and transmission kickdown geometry.
If the kickdown rod is too short, then Edelbrock sells an extension (#8004 for 5/16") for about $8.
I found the street avenger carbs are tuned a bit lean (in the idle/transfer and power valve restrictions) for emissions, and the metering plates do not have screw in restrictions like the Quick Fuel carb.
This is a 680 cfm Quick Fuel HR carb that is priced at $417

more info:

The more expensive SS series has some really nice features (more of a race carb), but jumps the price to $527

All these carbs are also dual inlet fuel bowls, so you would need a dual feed fuel line kit.

Hi,
After months driving my Interceptor equiped with a 770 CFM Street Avenger Holley carb, I can say that it is perfect. Good start, Good drive, smooth, fluid. Good perf.
Consumption is reduced (I calculate 16,5 liters/100km). Note that the centrifugated advance has been very optimized.

Good carb.

Is that on a 440 or on a 383?
