In the 70's and 80's Ford even had a completely fibre timing gear on the good old V6 Essex engine, these would fail and the engine would be destroyed as I found out to my expense on a 3.0 Capri in the early 80's. Every pushrod and valve was bent and it had even cracked a couple of pistons. Luckily in those days you could pick up a fully recon full engine for about £300 so with some help from some mates I was back on the road in a few days.slotcarone wrote:Just letting you guys know almost every American V8 engine from this era has this type of nylon cam gear from the factory.
