Tony, what was the story with those export plates? I remember some way of telling them apart from normal plates - was it a coloured border? You used to see some cars driving around with them in the UK for years!

EHD Plates

Post by ajm541s »

They had yellow borders to begin with but with the advent of plastic I think this practice disappeared. Instead they were letter series only used for EHD.
Both these cars were originally for my use and were sold to European dealers after about three months.
ROE 442G is now scrapped, I believe. POK 446G is alive and living in Germany,

I had a look at the "container cars" back in 1999. There were two cars, 117/2614 and 117/2622.
2614 was a black car, rusted through and dismantled and incomplete (no bumpers, only art of the interior etc). No registration papers.
2622 (light metallic blue) was a little better, still on its wheels, engine did not run, damage to the rear right if I remember correctly. Bumpers, interior and glass removed and in the container (of the 2 cars, only one front bumper in the container).
In all, it was a big mess, the seller wanted far too much money.
Cars turned up in an advertisement years later, incorrectly described as a Mk3 and parts car, and I think these were on a topic here some years ago. Nothing had changed much, still a high asking price (10K euros).
The future ain’t what it used to be.

MK1s in conner

Post by ajm541s »

I should have remembered that either you or someone had posted this information some time back, and I made a guess at identifying the owners.. Thanks again for the reminder!

117/3139, Tangerine/Moccha, was the 1969 Geneva Show demonstrator and Press car. This picture, taken at the factory in July 1969, shows me handing over this car to Edgar Schwyn (right of the picture) and at the same time two new cars to Messrs Pedersoli and Jacomeli, both hoteliers in Crans Montana. I will gladly have a copy made for the current owner of 3139 if he contacts me. I cannot positively identify the chassis numbers of the other cars.

117/3150, Crystal Blue/Black, was my demonstration car after 3139. This picture was taken in the Burgplatz in Braunschweig. Mike Chambers, then our export technical representative, and I were on our way to Bad Harzburg for the start of the (in)famous Constanze Damen Rally, arranged as a competition for the motoring wives of prominent German people by the magazine. As Carl Duerr's wife was a well known actress she entered, and of course this meant a back-up car! The Rally started in Bad Harzberg and ended in Luebeck, and was a very interesting trip and good publicity. So, having been stationed in Braunschweig 1955-58 I took the opportunity to revisit, calling in at the offices of the Braunschweiger Zeitung to see if we could get a little more publicity. The driver in the picture is their motoring reporter by the name of Schimpf. I also sold this car later on tO Schwyn, but the ex-factory date in Calver is the date I registered it in UK, not the date of sale to Schwyn. Does anybody have this car?

Tony. Please tell me you're bringing out a book documenting your Jensen years. If so, bags me the first copy.

Always fascinating to read your experiences......particularly as I can't always remember what I did a couple of days ago (helpful when England lose at rugby).

115/3023

Saw this is Cropredy today. Been fitted with LPG conversion which has caused a terminal underbonnet fire.

Very sad. A good car crying to get out. The interior is lovely and the leather is quite soft still, although quite worn. Would look and feel terrific with a bit of care and attention.

I'd love to take it on Steve, if (usual bullshit excuses) I had the space to work on it.

It certainly deserves saving, the interior is still a lovely place to be.

The desolation of the engine bay does not bother me at all, it is just replacing parts. I'd make the wiring harness myself if I had to.

Titled owner, apparently (although I "presume" it is owned now by the insurance company).

Is this an old LPG conversion or relatively new? If the latter and it were my car then whomever fitted it would be getting a very large bill about now!

In the parts catalogue that lever is for Heater Air Valve.
No notes for LHD cars and no picture of a LHD panel.

2610

2610 was Vignale built and supplied through the Sincar organisation to Beherman Demoen in Brussels. I cannot remember any UK LHD cars having this heater vent control, but then my memory..........

Met another Jensen owner by chance at a show today, turns out he only lives about 10 miles from me and runs a garage. The car is an original Irish MK1 and I wondered if it is on your list Steve. Chassis No 115/2620? not 100% sure but will check as I have his contact details.

That's my MK3 just in front, it was quite a coincidence to end up that close in what was quite a big show.
