A mate did one on the 80's. He had a 3.0 litre with a knackered engine so it seemed a good idea. He bought an engine and gearbox from a scrap American Ford in a local scrappy for a few hundred. I can remember the day he actually installed it we all got summoned to help and it somehow just went in surprisingly easily.
Over the next few weeks he tidied up the installation with a bigger radiator, electric fan kit and some stiffer springs on the front. The day came for a road test and it sounded fantastic, accelerated like a rocket and worked well. A few teething problems with exhausts banging on the floor under hard acceleration and the brakes struggling but these were soon started.
He used it a lot for a couple of years and its biggest problem was the fuel tank, it wasn't big enough
. On a run it would do high teens and was into single figures with a bit of enthusiastic driving.
Sadly one winter night it ended up in a ditch, it was drivable but it was banana shaped. He looked for another donor car to install the mechanicals but it never happened.

I'm sure these wedges could be classics. Don't see them on the road often.

I love front-engined Ferraris (275 GTB??). Then they went mid-engined and I rather lost interest. Too undignified getting in and out perhaps, which blows any sense of cool.

The Miura and the GT40, no good either I suppose

Wouldn't throw them out of my garage. But again, not Real Men's cars, possibly because they don't appeal to women (not compatible with heels, hairstyles, and high hemlines).
Your mileage may vary...

I am just trying to visualise a lady in a short skirt getting out of a GT40. That might be a problem for whom?

Not a fan of the rubber bumper, but two for the price of one this evening.

She got into the Diablo (eventually), but she wouldn't let anyone with a camera get a shot from that side....
