Celebrity Jensen Owners

Post by Chris »

Sometime ago some forum member started thread by asking if anyone had a long list of Jensen celebrity owners. Cant find it now. I started a list but was too busy at the time to post an answer. So here again the subject brought to the fore........ with my list so far. It may not be definitive or exhaustive, so feel free to correct me, or add.

For any members too young to remember (!) some of these iconic names, the celebrity's route to fame - at least JOC fame ! - is in brackets.........

Princess Anne
Ginger Baker (Musician with Cream, Blind Faith and others)
Peter Butler (pro golfer - 123/4098)
Jim Colbert (progolfer - 2210-9399)
Cher (Sonny and Cher)
Bing Crosby
Tony Curtis
Farrah Fawcett Majors (Lee Majors wife!)
Mick Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac)
Frederick Forsythe (author)
Eric Morecambe (Morecambe and Wise - comedians)
Sir Cliff Richard (VYG 500G - scrapped)
Harold Robbins (author)
Johnny Rutherford (racing car driver)
Frank Sinatra
Dusty Springfield (singer)
Donna Summer (singer)
Mike Winters (Mike and Bernie Winters - comedians)
Lyndsay De Paul (every man's dream)
Keith Castle (Heart transplant patient)
Henry Cooper (Champion boxer)
Tony Jacklin (Golfer)
Anne Aston ( The Golden Shot TV show hostess)
Roger Daltrey (The Who rock group)
Sir Matt Busby ( Manchester United football club boss)
John Bonham ( drummer - 1970s rock supergroup Led Zeppelin)
Joni Mitchell (Flower Power period, folk guitarist and songstress)

Im sure they'll be a few more, especially from show business. It was that sort of personality's car.

So- if you feel good driving and owning a Jensen, and didnt know the above, then youre probably going to feel even better !!

Celebity Jensen Owners

Chris

The item you were looking for was Stars and cars March 10th 2006 on this forum, but there have been others later.

For info, I can confirm that David Prowse (Darth Vader and Green Cross Code man) used to own an Interceptor convertible as I now own it, chassis 2340-1005 was Brienz blue from the factory.

He bought the Car from Hilary Floyd Gatch, a famous Fashion designer for Harrod's, she had the car painted Gold.

David Prowse painted the car Roll Royce Guards Red.
When I bought the car in 2004 it was Cherry Red metallic. If it has anymore coats of paint, it won’t fit in the garage.

I met David two years ago who remembered the car and signed a photo, Lovely man.

He also bought a CV8 from Mrs Gatch.

Through the forum I would like to appeal for info.

The car left the factory on VPO123N, it’s had 11 owners, and I am trying to get in touch with some owners who may read this forum. Reg now is TWC 878N

Mr H Beck Forrest Gate London Reg VPO123N to BEX77

Mr S Ives, Elland Halifax TWC 878N

Mr A R Lampitt, Harrow TWC 878N

If anyone has info on TWC 878N I would love to hear from them. Thanks

You can add Viscount Petersham to the list.

He was the original owner of my 1968 Interceptor Mark 1 115/2901.

His daughter is now married to Lord Linley son of Princess Margaret.

In my experience tracing previous owners there are often relations still living nearby. I note in the phone book there is a J.L Lampitt living in Harrow. Suggest you drop him a line with sae. You never know ...

Lester Piggott?

Post by PaulMcElhinney »

In 1986/87 I visited the factory in Kelvin Way because my Mark 1 was having some work done. I went round the back and was looking at other customers' cars. One was green with a green interior. It had a bonnet mascot with a horse and rider. The two old bodyshop boys were having a fag and told me that it belonged to Lester Piggott. Now I was only 21 at the time and in hindsight they may have decided to wind up the young kid. Or were they telling the truth and did Lester Piggott own an Interceptor?

On the subject of people who have had difficulties with the taxman have you heard about Ken Dodd's two latest Diddy Men? Diddy Pay and Diddy F... !
Paul McElhinney - Mk I 115/3309 in Positano yellow, FF Mk II 127/289.

Celebrity Jensen Owners

It seems the actor David Prowse was a keen Jensem owner as he also purchased an FF (061) from David Horton in 1983 which he kept until 1987. I now own the car and since David sold it in 1987 it has covered only 1000 miles.

Giles the cartoonist owned a red one, it was for sale a few years ago I was tempted.
Does anyone know who owned the one (white with tan roof Mk3) in the "dinner with death" scene in The Meaning of Life ? Was it any of the pythons ? That was the one that got me into the "Jensen trap" in the first place.

Cheers
