USING THE ORIGINAL PLATE NUMBER HERE IN CALIFORNIA.
USING THE ORIGINAL PLATE NUMBER HERE IN CALIFORNIA.
Hi Guys,
Steven here from Los Angeles !
I bought 115/ 2733 from fellow member Eric last year and we are in the process of getting the car ready as a weekend driver.
https://www.joc.org.uk/Interceptor_Mk_1/115_2733.html
The car was originally given the UK license plate number BBH577F.
California has begun issuing the original black Ca plates for cars from 1963 to 1969 and you get to choose the plate number.
So I decided to choose the original plate number issued in the UK in 1968.
But, I just wanted to make sure that in the club, no one else has BBH577F on their car ?
Or is BBH577F still in the system in the UK ?
This car arrived in the USA in 1977 and so I wonder did this plate number go with the car when it left the UK, or was it retired in the UK
when it left the UK ?
Any comments or advice welcome and as usual thanks for all your help and advice !
Regards Cheers Steven.

Re: USING THE ORIGINAL PLATE NUMBER HERE IN CALIFORNIA.
It is possible to do a vehicle check on the UK DVLA website (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) and a search for BBH 577F gives a "Vehicle details could not be found" result, not surprising if the car has been in the USA for 45 years. That means the DVLA has no record of the car. If the car returned to the UK it might be possible for an owner to get the original plate reissued, but only for that car as registrations can't be reissued and allocated to a different car, British registrations stay with the car, not the owner.

Wow that is great news John. So it is not in use at all in the uk right now, and Steven is probably the only person (likely 99% certainty) who could get it back in use.
It is not a special number so unlikely to be on retention. If it was on retention, would it show up on the DVLA is it taxed website?

Go for it Steven, it is not listed on the DVLA website, so it is certainly not attached to any road going Interceptor here.
Even if it were, I doubt it'd cause any confusion between the USA and UK

Hi Members,
Thanks John Staddon, John W and Martin R for all your comments.
I shall go ahead with my idea and see what happens.
I will send photos in about 6 months when the Ca plates hopefully arrive.
Again, thanks for all your comments !

Hi Members,
Just to update you on my ordering the original UK license plate number for my 1968 MK1 Interceptor
here in Los Angeles !
I went to my mail box Friday and to my surprise there were my BBH577F California black plates !
I shall have Moss motors make a UK black and silver plate for the front of the car with the same number
and off we go !
I am sure I shall be confronted by various law enforcement explaining that the front plate has to be a Ca plate,
but hey give me a ticket and I will pay it, as the UK plate is so much cooler.
Many US states like Nevada do not require a front license plate.
Have a great week !
Cheers Steven.

Congratulations. That looks really great, and will be very cool on the car.
Any chance you could drive the car up to the Channel Islands British Car Show in Oxnard on 2 October?
Would love to see it!

Re: USING THE ORIGINAL PLATE NUMBER HERE IN CALIFORNIA.
Hi Rocky.
Good evening from LA !
Unfortunately, the car needs a lot of work to get it ready to drive on the street,
maybe in the next 2 months.
Right now we removed the fuel tank and it needs to be boiled out and cleaned.
I bought a new carburetor and many other new engine parts.
It took months to re-do all the frozen rusted brake cylinders/shoes etc on the car.
Please let me know where the event will take place and I will try and come by.
Have a great week !
Regards Cheers Steven.
