What did you do with your car today/weekend?
Re: What did you do with your car today/weekend?
Thanks John. Colin Holley persuaded me to fit electronic ignition to my FF MK1. But that front valance is factory original
Re: What did you do with your car today/weekend?
The edge of the wing looks very interesting the metal shrinking clearly visible. So the wing and everything is original?
Did you save the old dizzy? I guess you did.

Yep, all original John. Not sure what happened to the dizzy unfortunately.

Looks as snug as a bug in a rug.Mark1Stu wrote: ↑Tue Jul 26, 2022 3:15 pm Thought I’d check on the Mopar Orange box I’d moved behind the splash panel on my MK1 FF. Not the ideal location or positioning - but thankfully it was dry and clean due to successfully sealing the edge of the splash panel.
I’d relocated it there to overcome occasional engine fluttering at idle - caused by high temp in the engine bay. Unlike my Interceptor, there isn’t the opportunity to site it ahead of the radiator on the FF. Hence I joined 2 harnesses together and moved it to the wheel arch. Problem solved.
I’ve kept the box locating screws on the inner wing along with a spare harness and orange box in my toolkit so I can (hopefully) get running again quickly if the existing one fails.

Short trip down to Genova. Was lovely, nonetheless:
- how much does it cost to junp start a battery on the Morandi bridge?
- how many kms can you make it home with a new battery but without the alternator working?

A few hours >2 according to Interceptor owners! Lights off of course. might get 4 hours+ on points ignition!
If you have a USB cigar socket charger with voltage display, or a multimeter, you could try connecting the FLD winding on the alternator directly to 12 volts with wire or piece of metal, and thus get the alternator running on full charge for a few minutes while idling. Maybe you could keep the old battery and charge it with jump leads when doing these boost up stops.

Probably a lot further than you think if you are careful with the electric, cooling fans are the biggest drain so find a route that avoids traffic.
I once had to drive over 100 miles with a ferry journey in the middle so two engine starts. I got home and to my surprise the engine started so I could put it away.

Genova-Zurich is approx 500kms. We were expecting that we need to find a garage somewhere to recharge the battery. We left at 6:30 with an empty tank, so we had to stop for fuel. Then we got on the highway, but in the wrong direction, so we decided that w/o a coffee it wouldn't go well: 2nd stop. All in all we stopped 5 times but made it home without the booster or recharging the battery, arriving at 2pm (with about an hour long stop for lunch). The battery was weak when we got home, but I still managed to start the car and take it to our garage.
We used just parking lights in the tunnels and avoided the Gotthard tunnel and the traffic jam ahead of the tunnel, going over the pass instead. We didn't encounter any major traffic jams, thankfully. Now we have a booster, and the battery charger will stay in the boot, just in case
What worked really well was using in the Google Maps app in offline modus to navigate (you have to download the part of the map you need in advance). The app in offline modus seemed to use a lot less of the phone's battery and there were no roaming charges.

€120 for a jump start. We had to convince him that he'd do it then and there, he wanted to load the car onto the truck saying it was dangerous were we stood. Jump starting took 5 minutes. We then stood there another 15 minutes until he had all the paperwork doneWould three digits be sufficient?

After reading some recent posts about bonnet cables snapping Ive fitted an emergency bonnet opening cable to our Mk 3 Interceptor. Generic multi strand off amazon.
Now just need to think about the boot hatch and fit the sort of emergency pull cable that was on my Mk1 FF and other Interceptor MK 1’s.

This morning finished fitting another 10mm of thermal insulation (over the existing and a bit damaged 10mm) to the bulkhead to help further reduce heat soak that warms up the fresh air drawn though the front scuttle grill when on ram air setting

Yesterday visited Steve Payne and watched while he installed one of his “soft start” cooling fan controllers and then set my idle mixture. Think tho its best if I post the detail in the technical section.

Whent for breakfast at caffein and machine today (bank holiday Monday) (its only 10 minutes from me)
Was just leaving when this American car parked up. Didn't have chance to look to see what it was?
And no we weren’t broken down someone had asked to look in the engine bay. Brett

That's a Lincoln Continental, as used by JFK.
