The Jensen Interceptor Is The Best & Worst British Car Ever Made.
Re: The Jensen Interceptor Is The Best & Worst British Car Ever Made.
Lovely PR job. My SP is a 1972 engine and is not stuffed by emissions etc. Have ocassionally red lined her at a speed checked 147 MPH. The front lifted and I got worried but there seemed to be more poke available. Near emptied a starting full tank.Kenny38

Such a shame he gave all Interceptors a bad name with cutting out, overheating and poor fuel economy.
A well maintained car will not cut out or overheat and I managed 17.9 MPG on a 2000 mile trip this year. i know its nothing like a modern cars fuel economy but far better than the 12MPG quoted. Even most 2 litre cars of the 70’s will only manage 25MPG and they are also a lot lighter as well as having smaller engines.

Our C-V8 did 19.5 mpg UK to England and back, approx 2'500 kms I think, and I verified the driven miles as best as I could using Google maps. I think we use fuel by the hour, not so much by the distance driven

I find fuel used a little puzzling on the quoted cars. The vast amount of owners would be glad to get 15 mpg. More like 13-14 even on a well maintained car. My car I have been told is in excellent order (except for a couple of non original things such as door speakers) never over heats runs like a new car and returns 13mpg on average. Am running a 780 Holley. I 'd like to see that! Kenny38

Perhaps we shouldn't compare a C-V8 to a Mk111 Interceptor with the 440 engine, but on two occasions over the last few years I have calculated fuel consumption on a long trip and found my C-V8 was doing 19.4 mpg, almost exactly the same as Felix's C-V8.

A 440 will be pushing to get over 15mpg in my opinion. However that excepted I also find it curious that the experts when discussing "awful fuel consumption" for the Jensen never give the same treatment/comment to other cars of similar size. A couple of members of my local club own Etypes and they admit not really caring but getting not much better than around 15mpg. Also A/M are big consumers whether it be a DB/5-6 with only 6 cylinders. Rollers from the 70's-90's around 10mpg yet testers don't say much. Why pick on the Jensen especially Interceptors? Kenny38

Good point Kenny.

Interesting- I couldn't believe the consumption, at first I thought I forgot one fuel stop and after that I double checked the miles driven on the computer. With city traffic the consumption is somewhere at 14 or 15 mpg though.John Staddon wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 9:53 am Perhaps we shouldn't compare a C-V8 to a Mk111 Interceptor with the 440 engine, but on two occasions over the last few years I have calculated fuel consumption on a long trip and found my C-V8 was doing 19.4 mpg, almost exactly the same as Felix's C-V8.
