739 JGW Does anyone know anything about this interceptor mk111

Post by paul gulliver »

Please can I ask for some HELP from all members regarding a car I have found for sale with no history ! It is my dream car and good value but something smells to good to be true! I know it has been laid up for 29 years after having a lot of works done to it, It has recently been recommissioned with a fuel tank and oil gaskets, the present owners (dealer) seems not to have done anything to it just added £10k onto the price they bought it from Anglia Car Auctions back in Nov 21.
The sticker in the back window is from Jensen Parts & Service Ltd . And I have Bridge Motors or Garage Birmingham in my head but dont quote me.
Any help or info that the JOC massive can muster from their little grey cells will be of great assistance to help me make my mind up of whether to go for it!
It has been on the market for a while with lots of interest but ultimately no one has risked it , the salesman says its because it has no history, MOT checker brings nothing up, but its had 5 pervious owners apparently . Its in Birenze blue (excuse my spelling) and is the 7.2 !
Leave it with you!
Many thanks in advance.

I can see the attraction!

(Jensen Parts and Service was a continuation of the original Jensen company, on a small scale. which closed in 1993)

The JOC records a previous owner who joined the club in 1989 and whose membership ended in 2002, there is no other history.

Thanks VFK, Yes exactly, this was when it was for sale at Anglia Car Auctions, It was the grille badge that give it away when I spotted it again down in Dorset.
I dont suppose there is any paper trail for Jensen Service ltd ?
many thanks for your input.

Thank you John, Nice archive digging !
I Have my Deer Stalker on and lighting the old Calabash in true Holmes style,
I dont suppose there are any details regarding the ex member (previous owner) or any way I could possibly get in touch with them ?
(I dont mean turning up on their door) but a discreet letter, email or perhaps an intro from the club ! Of course ther is a possibility they may be deceased, hence the odd way it has been sold and dealt with lately.
Interesting Watson !
many thanks

Robey's now own the rights to the dormant Jensen Parts and Services, as well as the original Jensen Motors. In exchange for a small fee, they may be able to provide you with the records they hold for your car.
https://www.martinrobey.com/jensen

Do not confuse them with Jensen Service, which is a new company spun off from the well respected Rejen company. (It split in two and the other half is now called River Bourne Classics.)

Jensen.co.uk is the online name of the business usually referred to on here as Appleyards.

All of the above have a good reputation within the club. There are other excellent specialists too, but these are the ones you might confuse with the defunct Jensen Parts and Services.

Don't be fooled by the Jensen Parts and Service sticker in the back window. These have been available for sale on ebay in the last few years and are no indication that the car which bears the sticker has ever had any attention from the now defunct organisation referred to.

Paul, these days GDPR means the JOC can't give out details of former members, or try to put you in touch with a former member, and even before GDPR I don't think we would have done so. For current members it's different, people join a club to be clubbable after all, or we hope they do. A bit of incidental info - I did notice that though the owner of the car was a member of the JOC for 13 years we never knew his first name so I don't think he was a very active member!

In respect of 739JGW you will be aware that this is Chassis No 136/8095
Ex Factory 03.01.73
Original Reg No BNU 504 L
Originally Mustard with a Beige Interior
Factory fitted options include
Voxson 8 Track
Quartz Iodine Fog/Spot Lights
Sundym Glass
Air Conditioning
Town & Country Horns

No other information recorded from my research but note that JOC Member may have purchased the car circa 1989 and sold in 2002, so will check to see if this identifies any information from my unallocated information
The DVLA can provide details of former owners and any details of these may identify some earlier history on the car

I note also that the cars is now fitted with rear seat belts - has it spent some time in the USA or abroad?

Kind regards

JIm Smith
Mem No 1639
136/8791 RJF 17 owned since September 1978

Unfortunately due to the aforementioned GDPR the DVLA have stopped doing this. They now don't even put the name of the previous keeper on your V5.

WOW !!
Massive thanks Jim,
That is so interesting,
Excellent detective work there, I have no idea if it went to the States, but suspected it had a bit of paint.
I will try Martin Robey as suggested by JFK44.
I am sure a bit more digging will be worth it.
Again Many thanks

Or lying across the back of a Lincoln?

Apologies to my American colleagues and to Will Smith in particular.
