Re: who remembers ?
Anyone our age(ish) will know them all. It means we're old....

Re: who remembers ?
Those 8-Track players were really junk weren't they.
Clunky and noisy while switching tracks and those tape cartridges were so bulky. Have a dozen of them and the cabin's full.
I think the tape speed was 3.75 inches per second using standard 0.25 inch wide tape which was supposed to give a theoretical improvement in sound quality over the 1.875 inches per second tape speed of the Compact Cassette with 0.125 inch wide tape but my Philips RN712 Radio Cassette Player/Recorder with Dolby noise reduction was far superior to any 8-Track I heard.
In later years I got fed up with CDs and no longer use them.
Now as I can't stand the jabbering nonsense from DJs on the radio, I only listen to music in the car via my phone, Bluetooth, playing music from YouTube.
Is there a better system?

Re: who remembers ?
Spotify. Not too expensive, better quality than YouTube, just about everything available (including classical). Follows you around, so if you are bopping around the kitchen listening on your Alexa or Google Home, you get in your car and it carries on where you let off. Build your own play lists. Or let Spotify play similar but random content to your original track. Two hours later, you think "how did I get here? ..but I'm glad I did."
"Now that chassis number is particularly interesting ‘cos it’s the one after the one before, which is the one after mine, not many people know that"

Re: who remembers ?
Spotify is a compressed format, so I use Tidal which is full, uncompressed, CD quality.

Its got to be vinyl. You just have to avoid potholes and bends...

Youths riding in the C–V8 are also surprised/confused by the window winder handles
Bought a mixed tape not long ago, but couldn't get the tape to play! Had never tried before, although we still have quite a few in the cellar.

Most youth of today don't even know how to open the bonnet, if they did the elf & safety brigade would have a fit as there are moving bits you can entrap yourself in, chemicals that can kill you and electricity that also can kill you. 50 years ago the car hand book showed you how to adjust the tappets, these days it tells you not to drink the contents of the battery

Re: who remembers ?
One of the Wife's friends bought a new Mini last year. When collecting it she asked the sales person how to top up the oil and water, she was told its not possible you need a special adapter.
Apparently the only thing she can do is refill the washer bottle.

Re: who remembers ?
I don't have to remember 8-track players, I just open the car door, look in, and there it is.
