The Alvis TE21’s manual I owned not only instructed on tappets but advised a de-coke every 24,000 miles and gave instructions. (Wot’s a de-coke Dad?)
My Audi Q5’s manual is 400 pages long (and thin paper too) and yet the car doesn’t even have a dipstick!

Sometimes, reading the owner's handbook is a good idea, but I just hate reading instructions.
That's because I think I already know everything.
However, if I had read the owner's manual before changing the oil in my Mercury Grand Marquis, I would not have wondered why only a small quantity of oil poured out upon removing the drain plug, nor have been puzzled that it only took a small quantity to refill to the mark on the dipstick.
I later found out the sump had TWO drain plugs.
