Surviving 541's

Post by dsimonds »

Does anybody either know or could provide an educated guess as to the number of 541's, in their various incarnations, that are on the road today?

Less than 550!

But seriously, with cars still coming out of the woodwork (2 in the past few months), that have not been heard of for 30 years or more, and completed restorations that I didn’t even know were happening, it is almost impossible to say with any certainty.

Thank you Dave for your inspired guess! I appreciate it is not an easy question to answer with any certainty.

Thanks also to Felix, the Richard Calver article was both interesting and informative.

I guess even if they had all survived the answer would still be ‘not many’!

I have photographs of over 400 541s. How many of those are duplicates under different registrations I don't know. If I have time, I'll check to see how many are conceivably roadworthy in 2021. Unless a 541 is proven to be scrapped, it could be resurrected so potentially around 500 survivors: some "scrap" vehicles are now being restored!
