Richard Hammond's The Smallest Cog - Interceptor MKII Restoration

Post by Fishyboy »

Hi all,
I've just been watching Richard Hammond's The Smallest Cog program which is is being shown on Discover+, but episodes are available on Youtube. The series documents his attempt to set up a classic car restoration business and the first car featured is a MKII Jensen Interceptor, which they picked up for £17k (you just know its going to be rusty!). The link to Episode 2 and the Interceptor restoration starts at 9:00 minutes.

An interesting choice for a first restoration. The main driver appears to be that his grandad was a senior inspector at Jensen up until 1972 (Episode 1).

Enjoy

Thanks Keith.
I thought a dedicated thread would get the link out to a wider audience given its got lots of Interceptor content.

Ive seen the first 2 episodes on youtube and there is surprisingly little car restoration content, we have now been introduced to most of his family though.

The Jensen was stripped down and partially welded in the last episode but not with much detail for anoraks like me. I would like to see a full episode on what they are going to do with that tailgate.

Thanks for posting. Really enjoy the video and to see familiar faces at the end of it at the london classic car show.

Kind regards

The first half looked good - then Youtube decided to kick me out saying it is a Private video that needed a sign-in.
I tried to open again but only got the sign-in option - is anyone else having this problem?

Strange how they have managed to remove the doors without driving out the hinge pins.....but left what should be set screws that fit into the captive plate in the doors in place throughout the blasting process. Refitting with fresh paint will be a challenge. Maybe someone has welded these in place and they are relying on individual nuts inside the door?

Hi all

I believe that this is Chassis No 123/3952
Ex Factory 10.11.70
Registered 11.11.70
Mileage 84,221
Originally Metallic Quartz with a Tan Interior

Now fitted with a "moon" glass sunroof, badge bar

Reportedly off the road since 1989

It will be interesting to see how this finishes
I am sure that it will be a good car but not sure it will make his business any money

Kind regards

Mem No 1639

Hi Fishboy,

Thanks but still no luck - it now says the video is unavailable due to copyright claim by Discovery Communications. I guess I will just have to wait until it comes on our Discovery Channel here in NZ, might be a regional issue.

Unfortunately the only remaining link has no Jensen content.

No problems, I just found it's on Amazon Prime, to which I'm currently subscribed, so can watch the Jensen episode there.

(Sorry, that sounds rather selfish, not my intention - but the copyright brigade seem to jump on youtube pretty fast)

Hi Coverte,
Not sure you'll be able to watch on Amazon Prime without taking out a Discovery+ subscription (at least that is the case for me). This link is currently working, but for how long?
Easy enough to download from Youtube and watch latter.
