We have just heard the very sad news that George Hamill (541R owner and serial classic car restorer) died suddenly on Friday night. His Forum username was “jjorj”.
He hadn't been ill and there were no medical warnings. Our sincere condolences go out to his wife Sue.

Re: very sad news - George Hamill
Shocking news; I'd communicated with George for around a dozen years, and was quite proud that he'd chosen a Jensen to add to his extensive collection (dozens) of classics. He was famous for his three Rover P4 connected cars: a very rare Marauder coupe (like a Rover P4 crossed with a 541!), a handsome Farina Rover 75 droptop, and a unique replica of the famous JET 1 Rover jet turbine car.
I last spoke to him at the Stratford celebrations for the 541's birthday, where his car was 99% complete. I believe I coined its nickname "the Racing 541" when it appeared as a wreck on eBay with a racing stripe down the middle and a racing number, added by vandals or more probably overenthusiastic children. He had the taste to refrain from copying this on the finished car.
Nice knowing you, George.
Death is certain, the hour is not certain.

"Now that chassis number is particularly interesting ‘cos it’s the one after the one before, which is the one after mine, not many people know that"
