NEW JENSEN BOOK OUT NOW!

Post by David Davies »

Dear all

Just a brief note to let you know that my book Jensen: The Surviving 3 1/2 and 4 1/4 Litre Cars has now been published, a little ahead of schedule. See Merchandise for further details and how to order, if you have not already done so.

Seventeen years in the making with 294 pages and 434 illustrations, it’s the first in-depth study of the 22 surviving cars, part of our glorious Jensen heritage. Hope you enjoy it.

Best regards

David

Is there anyway of getting the international freight down a bit? The freight costs more than than the book.

I suggest any further queries on freight or shipping are sent to Raj Mangroo on regalia@joc.org.uk who will be able to deal with any questions as the JOC is selling and distributing the book.

The perceived disparity between the overseas freight costs and the cost of the book is mainly due to the fact that I have priced the book extremely cheaply at £25. Similar in-depth, small run books on this website, and similar books reviewed elsewhere, are £65 to £90, or more for hardbacks. It is nearly 300 pages on high quality paper so weighs 1.1kg packed. I thought I was doing members a favour by pricing the book at a very reasonable price, at or below the production cost - the 17 years research comes free! Given the number of comments in recent weeks on this Forum about the overseas freight and customs costs relative to the price of the book including from the Registrar this does not seem to have been appreciated.

A well made point David. The price of the book does seem extremely good value - especially given the many years of meticulous research (aka labour of love) you have invested in capturing the early history of the marque, for the benefit of others. It's an era I know little about, so I shall ensure I put that right by purchasing a copy by way of support and thanks.

I can understand the frustration about the cost of overseas carriage - I regularly send things around the world for my business. But, please read again David's post above, especially the comment "pricing the book ... at or below the production cost " (my highlight).

The best way to show gratitude to David for such a gesture is to make sure it sells out very quickly, so BUY IT NOW! You'll kick yourselves in a few years if a reprint comes out at £90!

That’s why I ordered 6!!!!
What David has done by collecting all these information and put it together is very very valuable for all of us. I’m so happy he did it and apart from buying these books all I can do is to thank him for the unbelievable effort.

Many thanks, Joerg. Your first copy is making its way to Germany as I write, with the rest for collection in the UK later as requested.

Raj Mangroo has been doing a great job in getting orders out. Most went on Friday the others today unless waiting for other Merchandise. UK orders should arrive this week depending on the shipping option selected.

Ordered. And yes very cheap indeed. I buy quite a few motoring books and this was a bargain. Thanks David.

Mine has arrived and it's very nice too.
I just need to make time to read it, but, it's a nice one to "dip in and out" of anyway 8)

Thanks very much Martin and Per. I hope you enjoy it. Reviews from others also very welcome.

I’m hoping some more of the 1300+ JOC members may be raised from their slumbers. So far owners of featured cars and non-members have bought more than the wider JOC fraternity ;-)

Yes Raj will be there with Merchandise. Sadly not me or the car due to 24/7 care commitments

Great read, David. Chapeau!

Got my copy from Joerg the other day and am reading since. Brilliant research and very interesting stories. Get your copy, guys.

Absurd tax and customs payment after Brexit, but that's the way it is nowadays.
