Looks like they were only the empties going back to be refilled. It is criminal today how the EU today smashes up bottles instead of washing them. My favourite "local" brewery in Baar (Switzerland), couldn't make up some of the town names here, reuses theirs, there are deposits, you take a crate back and pick a full one up, etc. Reminds me of going for a "new" bottle of Tizer with my gran. I wonder what those photos will look like colourised!

Wonderful photos. That mess of broken bottles defies all logic. Did the lorry fall out of the sky?

Re: C-V8 398 KEA at the 1963 ERC Alpne Rallye
I see you are referring to the "Presse" sticker on the Coupe Alpes plate. Looking at the number plate, it would be cool to get scans of the digits of these old style plates, so that the individual numbers could be 3D printed in silver plastic at home, then fitted to a piece of aluminium with the edges swaged. The numbers could be "riveted" on at the back with a washer held on by melting tabs with a soldering iron. Scanning a number plate on a document scanner would give enough detail to build a 3D model. The problem for overseas owners is that they can't get original plates made up for their cars as DVLA forbid UK suppliers to make plates without a DVLA approved registration document.

Re: C-V8 398 KEA at the 1963 ERC Alpne Rallye
looks more like the truck driver was a little bit unconcentrated or perhaps also some alcohol? At that time as per my knowledge there was no limit, or they just invented a limit of 1,5 promille!
So he went off the pavement and overreacted by by braking and steering hard - so he spread the unsecured load all over the street, not securing the accident, not wearing gloves when trying to collect the broken glass - what a crazy (and dangerous time) in 1963

I think the truck you see in the front was not necessarily the one that lost the crates and bottles. You can see the tire marks on the road from him having to brake, and there is a crate under his truck...

I think we can all agree Wolfgang and Felix that the hot chick was driving the CV8 and is the innocent party in all this. If only it was a few years later she would have been in a mini

Re: C-V8 398 KEA at the 1963 ERC Alpne Rallye
Felix - well reflected, I suppose the truck was heavily overloaded with empty boxes and bottles, some 50 meters behind the accident there was a slight curve, so maybe there he comes in trouble was forced to brake hard because he missed the curve and then the part of the load higher than the drivers cabin went over the front of the truck and he rolled over the boxes until he came to stop...
All speculation - but by luck it seems that nothing more severe happened.
