RIP Prince Philip

Post by Frankoid »

RIP Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. A great man dedicated to public service who also had a good eye for a cracking car.

RIP.
What's the story behind the photo with HRH and the 541?

Without looking it up, I think a friend of Prince Philip turned up to Goodwood in a new 541. The Prince and then the Queen apparently, drove the car around Goodwood (not sure if it was around the estate or around the track). Sadly he decided to buy an Alvis convertible rather than a 541 - the Alvis is kept at sandringham and can be viewed by the public.

Here's the Alvis TD 21 he had commissioned. Note the higher than standard windscreen

Very tasteful, well equipped leather dashboard.

A long life well lived. His country will miss him.
