I am viewing a Jensen Healey MK1, next week, and would welcome any advice on what to check, not having previously owned one of these Jensens
I will hopefully have access to a ramp.
Many thanks,
Wil

Re: advice
Hi Wil, are you trying to build up a full set of Jensens?
As previously mentioned, it would really help to know whereabouts you live, as you might be able to get help to look at the car, either from a fellow amateur or from a professional enthusiast.

Re: advice
Hi WIL,
The list will be long, but rust and engine, would be the issues that could bring you lots of troubles and costs.
Re rust: Look for bubbles in paint approx 10 cm above the bottom of the front wings behind the wheel arches, and the same along the front edge of the bonnet. It is aleays much worse that it looks!
Remove whatever covers the footwell floors and in the boot and inspect for rust there.
Check A-posts from top to bottoms.
On a lift, check areas where front frame and rear axle are bolted on the body. Also check the panels/sills.
Re engine: If the engine has not been used regularly, you could be facing an engine rebuild. A seized engine or one where coolant has dried out, speaks for itself.
If the timing belt and oil pressure allows for a start-up, use your ears - use a screwdriver as a stethoscope.
As suggested, bring someone with you, preferably a J-H owner. Two sets of eyes/ears are better than one, and the person will always be more objective than you, having the role as potential buyer. I cannot help you - living in Denmark
Good luck,
Niels-Erik

Hi Stephen,
I am based in Herefordshire, so not sure what my local group would be.
Like us all, I'm very much looking forward to when we can have car meets again, and attend Shows.

Re: advice
You have a choice of 2 - either Richard Streeter (for South Wales) at southwales@joc.org.uk or Steve Zacaroli (for Warwicks, Worcs & W. Midlands) at 3w@joc.org.uk

Re: advice
I have purchased the Jensen- Healey.
I believe it is know to the Club, the previous owner was a Member.
Reg: TTU 975M
I will post some pics
It has a 2.2 Lotus engine fitted, (I have original), and overdrive gearbox,
I drove it yesterday, and it performs well.
Any further information on the car would be much appreciated,
thanks,
Wil

Re: advice
I am certainly no expert of Jensen Healeys, but a 2.2 litre engine and overdrive gearbox sound like a very good start indeed!

Congratulations Wil,
The more ‘umph’ and overdrive are useful and expensive improvements. I am sure you will be pleased with your new ride

Re: advice
Thanks,
yes, the car certainly drives well with plenty of torque, and the overdrive is very responsive.
Having not owned a Jensen-Healey before, I am impressed by the way it drives.
best regards,
Wil

Re: advice
I have recently spoken with the previous owner, who carried out the work to the engine and gearbox.
As I understand it, the block is original with parts replaced from a 2.2 Lotus Elise engine (180bhp I think).
The resulting performance is certainly impressive.
I will post some pics,
Wil

Re: advice
I understand that the engine work was carried out by previous owner, in conjunction with Martin Shirley.
I hope to meet up with JOC at local/National events .
