Determining match numbers
Determining match numbers
How can I determine if my ‘73 Interceptor, U.S. car, is matching numbers?

Post the vehicle ID # ( VIN # ) Plenty of us on here have Richards guide what will tell you the original specs
Re: Determining match numbers
Hi,
Interceptor with chassis number 133/5646 should have engine number HC10067/133. For information it left the factory on 13th March 1972 bound for the USA. It’s body colour was cerise with a black roof. It’s interior was black and it had the following options fitted. Sundym glass, air conditioning, town & country horns, vinyl roof and Learjet speakers.
Regards
Adrian

Re: Determining match numbers
It would appear this is a non matching engine. This is a picture of the engine number on the block. The formatting of the number isn’t consistent either.

I think that’s a different number but can’t remember where the Jensen engine number is located. Someone else may know.

look on the other pad. All mine are 383's and are stamped on the pad opposite to the distributor

The engine number will be on the other pad. You know it is not the original engine because it is a 7-series block, assembled November 16 (2nd shift) 1976.
Re: Determining match numbers
I’m finding that out from the casting number on the block as well...
10 * 6 * 76

I guess I can start dreaming about what to put back in it.

Re: Determining match numbers
If there is nothing wrong with the block, it can be built up to any standard you like. Having a very good engine (powerful, not overheating, tractable) is more important than the number on the block. With Jensens, the matching numbers concept is largely unimportant. You could go hunting for an H-series block but I can't see you would gain anything.
Re: Determining match numbers
The current block has a crack in it. Could repair it but if it’s not numbers matching not worth it.

Re: Determining match numbers
I have had my SP for 33 years. When i first got her the engine overheated very badly and ran poorly. I took the plunge and went to a specialist who told me the block was cracked and not worth saving. I protested that this wood not make an all numbers matching. They said that "this is not a %$^&# classic mate". Accordingly the engine was basically renewed and she has not over heated since. They also took the 6Pack off as was "porous and dangerous".Now running a 780 holley on top of a 440 torker edelbrock. Strangely that block ended up in another club car with lots of problems for the then owner. Richard makes sense when he tells you matching numbers on these cars don't mean a lot.A good engine does.
