Really ?

Just wondering how this price of £250'000 is justified, plus – Original Chrysler engine fully stripped, restored and rebuilt as new - how can it be Zero mileage. ??

I thought the build was using a suitable Jensen body, a GM engine and tons of other refinements far more than even a completely restored Interceptor at another specialist place could provide. My understanding of this company is that it has the workforce which is highly skilled and the finished vehicle would be superiour in all ways to a rolling resto carried out on the drip over a long time somewhere else. You have to accept not all buyers of a classic Jensen care about (total) originality. They have the funds and just want a unique car they can own and use perhaps on an everyday basis. Probably will not be on this forum as usually a different breed. Cropedy Bridge makes future classics. Cost of a slot tells you upfront what it will cost the buyer. Better than the dreaded phone call saying "you had better ccome and look at this as we didn't realise" etc. You will spend near the CB amount if you take your baby to a standard restorer and hang around sometimes years for completion. With little or no warranty of use if the company suddenly has a death wish. I was watching Bangers and Cash this week which included a barn find Aston DB6 (which subsequently sold for £120k). The programme included a visit by a marque expert who was asked how much it would cost to completely restore the car. Answer: £300k (not including the price of the car).

So on that basis it suggests the Cropredy offering is good value (ignoring residuals).

The price is justified as people are prepared to pay it. I wish I could!

Why does it need to be justified?

Kenny,

I think you’re talking about JIA down the road in Banbury, they rebuild using an LS3 motor and a new rear end based on a Jaguar IRS.

You're correct Colin, it would technically be illegal to zero the speedo odometer and then enter this incorrect figure on subsequent MOTs. However, there maybe a "loophole" where it is claimed a "new speedo" has been fitted at ******* mileage.

But why would anyone want a 46-year-old car with "zero" mileage?

Stuart, you're not comparing apples to apples. With its alloy bodywork and (of course) its Aston Martin twin-cam engine, the Aston is a much more expensive car to restore.

I think a post from CB would clear up values etc. Anyway I once wrote that value is in the eye of........ A brand new Jensen today's money would have to be around $400K.

I dont think any company needs to justify the price of a product, that is the price they advertise for a car and the choice is yours whether to buy or not.

Good point Keith. It was meant somewhat tongue in cheek but you're right. I hadn't thought to consider those facts.

Both resto costs are out of my league, I know that for sure.

As much as I agree £250k is a lot of money if you work it out that the parts to do an Interceptor properly will probably cost at least £50k and a years work at £100 an hour and you get to the figure they are asking.

I was talking to an owner of one of these cars last year and she was disappointed with the amount of snags after a month ( the A/C had stopped working and it was overheating in traffic were her two biggest niggles). For that money I would want it to be perfect in every detail with no teething troubles.

As far as the speedo when I had my speedo refurbished a couple of years ago I was asked if I wanted it resetting to zero or keep the miles as they are? I suppose you could argue if everything has been rebuilt and refurbished a zero mileage is justifiable.

For clarity, this was a car built by Cropredy Bridge Garage?

That is what she said, her husband had bought it for a significant birthday or anniversary for her. He had a Ferrari if I remember correctly.
