So a Ron Clay special chassis. Anyone know anything about that? That then has had front and rear axle changes, modern engine, steering, and driveline components. So it has cost 2 CV8's and an Interceptor so far.

I know nothing about theImageRon Clay Special ChassisImage, but, I did ring Ron last year and was talking to him for a good 1.5hrs on the phone John, I found an old post where he said he had a MK1 Manual Gearbox Tunnel and I wanted it for a template, but he's like me..won't get rid of anythingImage, he's got a Mk1 Manual there John, but it's a resto job, my feeling is that it won't ever get doneImage..as much as he absolutely loved his FF's back in the day and still does..he's a Tesla Man now and singing all praises for them, a bit like Richie, you know..a complete convertImage

They say it's a new chassis, but to be honest I haven't followed the videos all that closely. Whether it a new/new chassis or a repaired chassis I do not know.

As far as I can remember it is a new chassis and modified to accept a Mk111 Interceptor front suspension and steering. In the past Ron has supplied chassis to order but it has taken him a long time to make them, but Ron has been talking for a while about wanting to supply chassis for 541s and C-V8s either as off the shelf replacements or as part exchange, and as he supplied this one in a matter of weeks it seems he is now in a position to do that. It is a shame that the old chassis wasn't repaired but I saw this car up on a ramp and poked holes in the chassis to show the owners restorer just how rotten it was - it was bad, the rear of the boot floor and the ends of the side beams has actually disappeared! But until quite recently the car was two owners from new and very original, and now it will have a new chassis, non-original suspension, and wheels I am sure, a modern engine and drive train and probably a new interior, only the body shell will survive.

If even that, I seem to remember them speaking about redesigning various parts of the body.

I once spoke to Ulric, our two C-V8s were next to each other at one of the Internationals- his being freshly restored and highly original. I was doing a bit of complaining about the heavy steering, and he said your fault- what do you expect with your wider wheels and your modern tires. :D

A note from Ron Clay, who rang me this evening to talk about a few things, the chassis for this car is new and it does have a Mk111 Interceptor cross member for Interceptor steering etc., but that is also new, in Ron's words no original C-V8s or Interceptors were harmed in the making of the chassis!

That is very reassuring to know! Well done Ron in that case.

We also got to see a bit more of Retropower's metalworking facilities and their kit in this video, in the other unit. They seem to be expanding in the metalwork department. A CNC Plasma cutter is starting to look like a useful toy.

Just as I thought when watching the episode how fantastic the C-V8 looks, he said that the body will be significantly altered ...maybe they will turn it into an Interceptor?

Don’t panic Felix! I’ll try to find a link to Alt Mule’s rendering, but I seem to remember some relatively low key tweaking of the headlamp area.

Sort of reminds me of the CV8 that was for sale a little while ago.

Lowered, black spoke wheels, head light covers.

Those of us that want to see the Jensen part only can skip with this link https://youtu.be/jk_-5Xmo85I?t=654.
Anyone with a dislike of Jaguars might want to watch Project Utah, the story of a (once upon a time) Jaguar Mk2, having it's le Mans proven straight six (the six that won Le Mans 5 times) extracted and replaced with an obsolete mid 1990s Toyota inline 6, disguised with some Jag like polished rocker covers :?. That starts at 5:50.

These Retropower guys are very good at welding and fabricating. Maybe after a bit more practice like this they really could and perhaps should be designing their own cars.
