MY MK 2 WITH THE ORIGINAL RIMS BACK ON THE CAR !

Dear Members,

Good afternoon from Los Angeles !

I picked up my MK 2 from the storage to place the original MK 2 wheels back on the car.

I had to change the front rotors, calipers, brackets, nuts, center caps etc and new tires to finally have it finished.

I managed to get the original style center caps on Ebay and here they are in great condition.

I put the other MK 3 rims and tires on the third Jensen sitting over at the storage.

Personally I like the MK 2 rims on the car, comments are of course welcome.

I need to change all 4 shocks and check the springs and do something about the damaged body work ,
which I will discuss in another Post.

Cheers Steven.

Looks great with the correct wheels. I know you have problems with your paint based on your other post but the car looks good.

Congratulations. That's a really desirable, classy looking car - even with the hopefully minor paint defects. Lovely panel gaps too.

I often wonder what possesses owners to bling their car up, put on an ill-fitting louvred bonnet in place of the serviceable original etc etc - more so now I've seen your sharp looking understated example.

I guess it doesn't rain where you live (I belatedly realised you've temporarily removed the wiper arms)

Lovely, I do like to see Mk1 and 2 Interceptors with the correct wheels.
I know they are much more expensive to refurbish than GKNs but they really do finish off an early car.

I hope your going to enter that in concours :)

That looks the business and definitely worth the effort. Good move.
What tyres do you have fitted there?

Looks great! I would not worry about the springs. Your car sits if anything too high in the front indicating the springs are fine. The rear height is perfect. Why do you thing the shocks need attention? :)

Very smart looking car. It sits just right on the Rostyles and big tyres. You could enter the Concours - I don't think it requires a photo shot from above, hint hint!

Good afternoon from Los Angeles !

Thank you for all your kind comments.

The tires on the car are Pirelli 215 x 70 15, I wanted a bigger tire, the other 60 inch tires were a little to small to fill the wheel well.

The cost of converting back to the original rims was around two thousand dollars, refurbished rims, new tires, new calipers, new rotors, new lock nuts, and also refurbished MK 2 brackets.

I wondered why does the front of the car sit so high ?

I thought the problem was the springs or the shocks, any other suggestions on how to correct this ?

The car drives very well and seems a lot faster than my 72 MK 3,which is a G numbered car built in 71 and has the same 383 motor ?

Anyway, I would love to buy a MK 1 someday, anyone know of a descent priced MK 1 here in the US ?

Have a wonderful week wherever you are in the World !

Regards Cheers Steven.

The story is Jensen had to raise the front of the car to comply with US requirements on the height of the head lamps. So they fitted taller springs.

You can buy shorter springs. Well worth doing.

Is the MK3 G series 383 lower compression than the E series 383 that the MK2 came with?

Was there an F series?

This will also return the car to the originally intended geometry of the front wheels.

Yep , G series a lot lower compression than an E.

Approx 10% down on power

It would probably be a good idea to rebush the front suspension if you do replace the springs.

Also don't be tempted to cut them down, the shorter springs I believe are a little firmer.

F series engines were all in USA exports.
