Re: Keeping Busy Whilst Self Isolating
You must use hight temp glue and to smarten up the edges a bead of black silicone looks like a seam.
The middle piece is difficult to do but sticking it on in stages makes it manageable.
As far as originalty I have no idea but it looks good and better in my opinion than the silver reflective that I have seen on some cars.

What was the finish paint wise on the underside of the bonnet, I take it body colour stone chip? Or was it black to match the engine bay?Steve Payne wrote:Yes it is Hardura, I was lucky I could use the remains of the old pieces to use as templates for the new pieces. I made them bigger so I could tuck them under the spars where I could. It will shrink so any extra will prolong it life.

If you look back at the previous page you will see it is the original Orange. It looked like it had never been resprayed under there and no black. My guess it left the factory in body color and the Hardura was applied at a renovation in the past.

Re: Keeping Busy Whilst Self Isolating
It looks as though you did the work in situ with the bonnet still on?
When I did my old MK3, I took the bonnet off, laid it on an inflatable mattress which was then placed onto an outdoor garden table - made it much easier and far less mess!
I'll see if I can find the pictures.

Re: Keeping Busy Whilst Self Isolating
Yes Martin I did. My original plan was to get one of my sons or a helpful neighbor or friend to help lift it off but with the social distancing it was either Sarah or do it up side down. It has actually come out really well, having it in place aloud the pieces to flop down while the glue was tacking up.

I know what you mean about needing a hand - I had Zac(2) to help me put it back on
I'm sure Sarah would've been more than happy to help

Good idea with the blow up mattress to put it on, will do that with mine. I've never had much problem with getting the bonnet off on my own, inner headlamps out, undo the nuts then lift it and walk backwards. Putting it back in with cardboard around the edges to line it up,(Steve's tip) and Robert's your father's brother. FF is a different ball game.
Steve take your car back to orange, I do like your shade of green, but orange interceptors are soooo good.

Hmm, not convinced. It's not even Jensen Orange. It's a BMW orange, I think it is called Inca. It is quite pale and with a light interior would look terrible in my view.Kevin Birch wrote:

We're doing a small renovation of a bar we completed 11 years ago, now that it is closed. We have the key and the bar is fully stocked- we could not resist, it's Friday evening after all
