Keeping Busy Whilst Self Isolating

Post by Kevin Birch »

Whilst being home for virtually 2 weeks already, have finished the kitchen rebuild, (started Christmas), decorated the hall, lounge ,stairs & landing, laid new laminate flooring throughout the hall, lounge and kitchen, so leaving me time now to concentrate on the cars :D .
Started yesterday by giving the garage a thorough clear out, being brutal and getting rid of what is basically scrap, and deciding to repaint half the garage floor. This will leave the environment nice and clear to tackle the jobs I want to do. :D, such as Jensen fuel lines, underside of bonnet refurb, and a few little niggly bits and pieces. Front valance for the Cortina ordered, so will fit that when it comes etc etc.
Managed to get the garage floor sorted, can't do all of it at once, due to too much gear in there, and the Cortina still being immovable on a spit. Just before actually putting the paint on the floor, I had to attend a conference call, which has changed my life for the next 2 weeks with virtually very little time to do these jobs. I now have become a critical worker, and will from tomorrow morning, be involved in assisting the army in converting the NEC into a field hospital, which needs to be completed within 10 days.. This will be a massive and stressful undertaking, but hopefully a rewarding one knowing that I'm doing my bit for the country, even though staying at home would be nice. Once all the IT is installed, upto military standard, it will need to be maintained 24hrs/7 days a week, for the foreseeable future. What desperate times we are in at the moment, which can affect us all by just a simple phone call.

Anyway, I managed to get the paint on the floor, but still have numerous items stacked up in the garden, and the Jensen living outside tonight, but will be safe. A couple of photos of before and after.

Send in your photos of what you're upto in your garage, keep them clean please, and of course all look after yourselves and hope to catch up in better times.

Good luck Kev. I worked in the Army Ops room during the foot and mouth and a previous flood crisis. Full on 'get it done' work but hugely satisfying - albeit tiring.

Er, these days (well yesterday) I built up some refurbished light units for my Volvo 240 (he whispered).

my garage project started a few months ago when my wife wanted the garage doors automated. I opted for a double door and then the fun started. I had never been happy with the lack of finish in the garage = no window sills, no insulation etc. Having never hammered two screws together I started the refurbishment. I had previously installed the old kitchen cabinets there is a lot of battening which hides my plaster board joins. Just the floor to do = and skirting boards .

Today's project
Trident won't start on the electric start, as starter motor sluggish and drawing too much current. Would kick start but too hard due to dodgy knee.

Charlie, why not sort the parking on your wipers, not a wire as first suggested, the wiper gear wheels are are fitted upside down. A pain of a job to access, but doable without removing the fresh air box. If the box comes out easy, then take it out as it will make access easier, but if it hasn't ever been moved, don't even try as it won't budge without severe force with a long bar.

Hi Kev
When you put the post up it was the first thing I thought of, I wondered if you remembered the conversation we had somewhere on the way to Turin!
Yes definitely a job I'm going to tackle in the next day or two, it would give me great pleasure to have the wipers parking. Thanks for of the advice I'll keep you posted.

Hanging new internal doors whilst off, keeping the misses happy.

But managing to spend some time in the garage.

New refurbed steering wheel boss back on, new old stock wash wipe knob fitted and newly refurbished tachometer fitted.

Simple things :D
