Not converting the 8 track, but have an amp for the speakers, hidden somewhere, probably under the seat, a graphic equaliser which will sit in the centre console with the Dab radio unit which has the MP3 input, so will control it all from here. The 8 track will plug into the graphic equaliser via some clever electronics that drop the speaker outputs to low level RCA inputs. The hardest part is going to conceal the DAB aerial connector hopefully above the headlining, with the small aerial stuck to the screen above the sun visor.

Dash finally sorted, and centre console pretty much done, just needs a little fettling, all still out of the car but ready to go in. Will put it all in to ensure it fits properly, then take it back out to store, and do the final fit once the outside is painted. The chromed plastic fittings on the dash,(speedo & tacho bezels, vent knobs and indicator tell tales) have all been redone, at an eyewatering cost but look superb. Have managed, after some proper bracket engineering, to install a pair of Alpine 6"x9" speakers up under the dash out of view as I do like my music but there is no provision in the car for speakers except to cut holes in the door cards, which I'm not prepared to do. Have sourced a stereo speaker with 2 inputs to go in the rear parcel shelf grille, where the original mono speaker was located. Have bought one of the new stereo units that do everything, but look from the 1960s and a neat little bit of kit that connects a DAB radio to normal aerial, so don't need one of those plastic window aerials and will use the roof aerial. :D From old MOTs, that looks like the original mileage too, but of course it could have gone round the clock
Time is short now as I'm back in work, but hopefully will still get the car sorted next year.

Hi Kees,

correct for a LC series 2 Ammeter but in the wrong place, Fuel and ammeter need to be swapped, but only in there to see what it looks like.

Sorry, too quick. Forgot it is for a Ford Cortina, not a Jensen. I should have noticed the difference in the dashboard straight away.

Hi Wolfgang, nice fuel lines, but spill the beans, what car? Looks Ford Escort with a Pinto and nice exhaust manifold :) The top suspension of my Lotus had plates welded on the top, but mine had plates on the original strengthening plates, with more plates added around the edges and was awful. All had been put on over the old stuff so had rotted out most of the inner wing by the time I came to repair it.
Have a good Xmas

Couldn't resist this 13 years languishing in a barn Volvo 240.

The family of the deceased owner pulled it out (it moved freely) and put new fluids, filters and plugs in it and it ran smoothly. In my possession and without any work other than a replacement windscreen washer pump and new sun visor clip it was presented for an MOT......and passed!

Now in the middle of an upper body restoration and general titivation before hopefully being taken on by our eldest daughter - who would prefer a Volvo 340. Oh how a car's image/perceived coolness can change through the generations.

That looks and sounds like a very nice car. Excellent choice!!
The 340 is not as bad as its reputation suggests. They are roomy fairly comfortable and if it is the Renault engined one with it variomatic gearbox rather quirky but very tunable (same basic engines as in the Alpine Renault A110 and Renault 5/8/9/12/16 etc. in 1100-1600 guise) Engine can be replaced with many later, more powerful Renault engines.
The Volvo engined manual car is a bit less interesting I think, although it is very reliable.

I recall the 340 being one of the most unpleasant cars I've ever driven.
It handled like a boat. In fact, I'd go as far as to say it felt dangerous.
It was virtually brand new and was the company car of a work colleague at the time, so it wasn't as if I drove an old knackered one.

Joerg, the "B" looks really straight and reminds me when my dad had one in the early seventies, in primrose yellow. We went on holiday in it, mum, dad me and my brother and a week's luggage from B'ham to Gatwick airport where we boarded a (Dan Air) Dehavilland Comet to Greece. I read that there were 17,700 of them taxed in the UK a few years ago, that means insured and on the road, so god knows how many have actually survived and are still in garages/barns etc.
Have a good Xmas.

Spent an enjoyable couple of hours today putting this beauty together.

5 or so years ago I had a Voxson faceplate and the mazak cassette surround rechromed. So when this head unit came up for sale recently I thought why not make use of my remaining spares.

I'm a sucker for these early Voxson 104s.

This will be the Escort in development, now he is nearly ready for a first test stint - new photos to follow soon. Still waiting for parts but due to Brexit, Corona there is an extreme delay in delivery. Powered by a Lotus Cortina 1,6l with 2 Weber's DCOE40 and designed as Rallye car

Have fun
