Mobile phone screenshots

I see that some people are finding it convenient to post screenshots from their mobile phone to support whatever point they are making, but please can I make an appeal for it to stop as routine practice?

Why?

Because readers of the thread cannot follow it as a link.

Where whatever you (the poster) are reading vanishes off the bottom of your screen, you (the poster) can put your finger on it and scroll up to continue reading.

But we can't do that!

It's just an image, so we can do almost nothing with it, other than read the small section of the article that you happened to have on the screen at the time.

So, my request: Please POST A LINK - not just a phone image of a little bit of the article. That way we can click on the link and read all of the article.

Thanks!

How about posting BOTH?
Then you have the point made immediately by the screenshot and the link for those who want to read further.

For anyone who wants to read further about a particular topic, it's an easy matter to Google "Dutch clog highways" and they can choose from a variety of sources.

I'm so sorry I can't post everything which meets with your approval, Felix.

Please provide a list of acceptable sources, so I can comply with your requirements.

Of course, it's trivially easy for you to kindly show us what you are reading on your phone - but it's not quite so trivially easy for other people to find the article.

Yes, the reader can manually open a new tab and type in the heading that you have kindly provided an image of, but then they have to guess which of the many hits correspond to the actual article you have decided that they need to see.

Why do I care? Because at its worst, it's an insidious form of selective quoting. One where the poster quotes from an article, but chooses to only show us the part that they want us to see.
