How do they know one belongs to a certain religion? Surely that is not registered as such with the authorities?

In Germany, I think it's up to you to declare your religion, either when you register as you take up residence in that area, or on your tax form. I should know, as I lived in Munich, but that was 22 years ago.
A friend of mine was strongly Catholic and could not bring himself to lie about it. I think he paid 10% which seems outrageous to me. You can pay more than the listed amount if you choose! (I paid nothing.)
A number of contract engineers were working on illegal 'split' deals.
Some were caught. They paid fines, had properties confiscated or were forced to sell them to meet tax obligations and some went to prison.
Germany takes payment of income tax seriously.

I don't do my taxes so I'm not sure (see chimneys), but they either know your religion or you declare it. I'm not even sure if the state charges the churches for collecting their membership fees.

There was a very nice lady called Anne Meldung who helped me complete the form in Munich.
"Religious domination." ?

Fascinating how a topic can morph from one thing into another.

Electric cars are kind of like a religion, and V8s are a cult...

This is partly about electric cars, and also about the need for nuclear power in Australia.

I think this is about an increased subsidy for electric cars in Germany.
Even for used cars and hybrids!
Umweltbonus = Environmental bonus.

A very positive and interesting review of the Tesla Model 3 here on YouTube.
