Cheap Jensens on E bay too good to be true

Post by Blue-SP »

Suddenly, there is a wide variety of Jensens on EBay at silly pries, all by the same seller.
The seller has 100% feedback and yet he has a negative feedback and a neutral feedback which does not show. Be careful

They've been removed now. (Not the expensive ones on that screenprint, which are from genuine sellers.)

I would imagine that "thevern69" is a genuine ebay id which was hijacked for a short while to sell these dodgy items. The reason the neutral and negative don't show is because they were more than a year ago, and eBay only rates people on the last 12 months performance. He has bought a lot of stuff in the last 12 months so that is where his 100% score comes from.

Those same cars keep coming up at those prices. Some are relisted daily.

Does anyone really get scammed by these adverts?

Yes it happens frequently - sometimes several times a week, as Steve says. I have various classic car alerts on eBay and I get emails sent when new cars are posted. The listing of certain ridiculously cheap classic cars is common. They are always from hacked eBay accounts and usually the seller asks you to contact them directly through an email account. If you click on sellers other items on these accounts you will usually see hundreds of cars, bikes etc listed. I suppose it only takes one (unsuspecting) person to contact the seller, think they are getting a bargain and send a deposit via some untraceable money sending service. If I have time, I usually report a few of the items via the eBay reporting system (Listing activities > fraudulent listing >you suspect that the listing is fraudulent, from the eBay drop-down menus). Eventually, (hours or even days later) eBay will generally remove the items (and I assume contact the genuine account owner to tell them their account has been hacked).

I always used to bid high amounts ie. £100k plus to try and put
others off.

Recently when I try to bid I’m blocked. Surely this must mean it’s the
same scammer who has a blacklist of interfering ebayers.

With up 2000 fraudulent listing per seller it’s not hard to reel in
one innocent victim.

I hope when the banking system is upgraded in the spring it will have
a positive effect.

My car is the one bottom centre of the screen shot. I report it most days with different sellers, I wish I paid what the scammer is asking for it !

Yesterday's mail online - don't know if it was a hacked account

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... -Ebay.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

What I don't understand is if we can spot fake adverts, and the same items keep being posted over and over again, with the same photos, then why can't eBay use an algorithm to do the same?
