Jensen CV8 - Rory Gallagher concert Ireland 1978

Post by Fourcarrz »

I watched an old German made video available on YouTube of Rory Gallagher's concert at Macroom outside Cork city in 1978.
After 22 minutes it shows Rory arriving at the open air concert in a Jensen CV8.
It is brief but I wonder if its still exists and where it is now?

I believe the car in the video is 104/2094, here's why.

In the video Rory Gallagher was a passenger, so he probably didn't own the car, but Rory Gallagher had a brother called Donal who was his manager, and the records show a Donal James Gallagher owned 104/2094 and he owned it by 1980 (that is we know he owned to in 1980 but he could have bought the car at any point between 1969 and the last record of the first owner and 1980 when he joined the JOC). A search on the net shows a Donal James Gallagher is still listed by Companies House and he is the director of several companies that are connected to the music business and he was also a director of a company called RG2016. Another director of RG2016 was a Rory Gallagher born in 1948 and who resigned in 1995. When someone dies they are shown in the records at Companies House as 'resigned' and Rory Gallagher, the musician, born in 1948, died in 1995. Rory Gallagher's brother Donal was born in 1949 and Donal James Gallagher was also born in 1949 (a directors date of birth is listed by Companies House). 104/2094 was originally Sun Bronze with a Beige interior, the car in the video doesn't look like it is Sun Bronze, but 104/2094 has also been BMW metallic green, then blue, then black and now it is pale blue, the car in the video does look green.

104/2094 survives.

Many thanks to everyone for adding to this small slice of history. I also first saw Rory at Mothers in Birmingham and also at the Isle of Wight 1970 when he was still in the band Taste.
I learned later that he was a school friend of one of my cousins in Cork City and my Aunt remembered him at their house always carrying a mouth organ. I suppose he hadn't enough pocket money for the guitar back then.
Donal is probably the driver seen also climbing out of the CV8 and I believe that he manages the music rights and royalties of Rory's music the latest compilation is:-

This is what sparked my interest which led to me finding the video clip with the Jensen CV8.
