MkIII <73 or >73?

Post by hhkjames »

Hi All, sorry this has probably been covered before but I cannot find it anywhere!
The JOC membership docs included a production schedule, I note MKIII's 1971 to 73 are categorised differently to MkIII's from 73 to 76...

Two questions, what's the difference?

How do I know if my 73 is a before or after car?

Thanks,
James

It's a "before" car.

Thanks Chris, and thanks Andy - that wasn't the question but I know the answer to that one now...

Anyone else?

I didn't know the membership docs included production schedules and made a distinction. I don't know the physical differences except the engine series. Until 1973 you have an xxx/yyyy style of car numbering and are generally referred to as the early Interceptor III. These have G, H and J (or 3C) series engines. Late in 1973 the numbering was changed to the xxxx/yyyy format and were known as Interceptor III Series 4 (not Interceptor S4 which came in the 1980s), the Interceptor III Series 4 taking its cue from the Chrysler model year 1974 series 4 engines.
So you have a late "before" car (about 130 from the end of the early cars) and (in round numbers) about the 800th "after" car!

Thanks Chris, that's really very helpful in piecing together a few bits of the jensen puzzle I hadn't understood.
