Chassis/VIN Number

A quick question: I know my Chassis number (SIII Mk4) is 1835. But all chassis numbers I've seen seem to take the form xxx/1835 - how do I find out the first 3 numbers, and what do they represent? Sorry if that's a stupid question.

Should be recorded on your V5.
Also later cars were 4 digits i.e. 2240 with the following code:
Position 1: Model
Position 2: Body
Position 3: LHD/RHD
Position 4: Market
2240 would be Interceptor Saloon RHD UK
2310 would be Interceptor Convertible LHD USA
There are other code variatons.

Thanks Chris - I probably should have said that I've read through Richard Calvers site, https://www.richardcalver.com/article_int3ghj.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and that suggests 136/1835 (possibly a Series J?) but it also seems it's a MK4? Or is that the same thing: :0/

V5 shows only 1835

136 and 1835 would not go together. 136 was only in 1973 and ranged in the 8000s and 9000s numbers. Yours is 2240/

Thank you so much - I see from your post above that it is 2240 (I got a bit punch drunk trying to decipher the Richard Calver Numbers :0)
