New Owner - Hello

Post by GregMVF4 »

Have realised a long-held dream and bought a SIII Mk4 - Chassis 1835. I have wanted one since I was about 10 and had a ride in a mate's dad's FF. It has always been right car/wrong money or vice versa. I think I have found the ideal combination, as it was EXACTLY as Dunc described it. I can happily use it, and restore/repair/refurb as I go along.

I know the car is known on here (was owned by Mark Capehorn on reg 9870 MC) and I was lurking/researching on here before I bought it. Actually bought it from Dunc Watts of this parish, who was really helpful - I drove it home to mid-Kent from Crewe straight after buying it. I absolutely love the thing.

Have been to Rejen and spent/bored Jason all day discussing what needs doing, and when (he was SO helpful and I think he was pleased to see SWR 20R again!). It's going in in June for the seats to be retrimmed and have a new dash fitted and a couple of bits of headlining replaced, and will also be going in over the winter for the bits and pieces of the body (don't mention the tailgate!) to be done. Aircon is being looked at on Friday. Other than that she's beautiful - runs smoothly (now), doesn't even get too hot in M25 traffic jams!!. Had to flush the fuel lines/replace filters/strip and clean the carb after getting home as it just wouldn't pull. 40-50mph most of the way home, and less up gradients - forgiven - she's over 40 years old! - now runs beautifully - 110mph indicated on M25 no problem (although - as Duncan said - you have to plan braking 2 junctions ahead!! :0). I'm really looking forward to just enjoying the car, and giving her the TLC and fettling she needs.

Anyway - that's me - just thought I'd say hello. I'm sure I'll be asking for lots of advice and opinions along the way (first thing being the sounds - thinking I'll go back to period MW/LW radio, rather than the more modern one that's currently fitted and use a Bluetooth speaker/phone when necessary. Not sure atm)

Great stuff Greg, enjoy the car, looks great in that blue.

Dunc’s description will have been spot on, he really knows these cars. I think Jason looks after Mark Capehorn’s white convertible. Another top bloke that knows his Jensen’s. Looks like you will be in good company.

Enjoy
Eddie

No, I'm sure it was just a mistype. M is just below K on the keyboard so I'm sure he meant to type KPH.

Duncan was an absolute pleasure to deal with - car was EXACTLY as described, price, collection, payment and everything agreed, no messing about - started talking on Wednesday, picked car up on Friday. Seems like a top chap - and is obviously well thought of on here and on other Jensen sites and groups. I already know who I'll be ringing if the transmission ever needs anything!

And yes - 1835 is clearly well known to Jason (and his techs) and he does look after Mark's convertible.

Re the radio, your car would probably have had a Radiomobile stereo 8 originally.

Grant had done fantastic things with his, "cum on feel the noize"! .... https://www.joc.org.uk/forum/viewtopic. ... k&start=15" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I drove my Jensen around Hildenborough a lot, glad there is still a Jensen presence there!

I'm pretty sure I'll go with the retro option, but rest assured I'll keep the 'home fires burning'* here in the 'Borough. :0)

*the burble of V8s anyway.

I fitted a modern stereo with aux inputs , Bluetooth &

a microphone hidden under the steering column.

At first glance it looks like an 8 track , well pleased.

That looks nice, John - do you have a link for the unit? (I actually have the magnetic pad already on the side of the centre console for the (Dictaphone (sp?)) microphone :0)

Welcome to the club

With regards to radios, you may check out classic car stereos

i have one of these
https://www.classiccarstereo.co.uk/clas ... dab-radio/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

(manual can be found under attachments tab)

along with the dab adapter module listed here
https://www.classiccarstereo.co.uk/accessories/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The setup seems to work well with a set of 4x alpine spg-13c2 5.25" speakers.

As you can see from the manual the radio seems to do most things dab/fm etc and drives a 64gb usb flash storage device...

Note also the radio knobs can be moved in/out by 10mm so you can fit existing holes the black front radio plate is optional so you can fit the radio with out the black plate and just have the radio controls and small display poking through the facia, which was how i installed mine

Cheers

I have this one fitted to my MK3.
It has bluetooth, FM, SD card slot, Aux input, handsfree and with the external microphone socket, I have fitted a mic on the sun visor which seems to work well. I ran the wire up the A-pillar so it's hidden pretty well.
I also bought the CD version of the same unit which I still have, brand new, boxed unused.
It's the same as above but also can play CD's which in the end, I decided I would never do, hence I fitted the non-CD version.
The facia of the unit is quite chunky so stands proud of the dashboard by about 7mm but in my opinion, looks smart as it's chrome.
If you're interested in my spare CD version, let me know and I'd be happy to do a deal for considerably less than the original price of the unit which was £129.60
