MY 1972 JENSEN INTERCEPTOR ONE DAY AT A TIME!

Post by StevenLA »

Dear Members,

The Jensen is coming along nicely.

We removed the rear bumper which was badly damaged and we took it to get a quote in order to
straighten it out and re-chrome it. The quote came back at a whopping $2200.

Obviously we can buy a new Stainless steel bumper for that.

While looking at the back of the Jensen we all think that the car looks so much better without
that dated chrome bumper hanging of the back of the car. The rear bumper looks like it was an afterthought not a design plus.

I would be quite happy updating the rear bumper with a modified type of molded modern bumper, more in line with
the later Jaguar XK from 2000 ?

I know this is heresy to enthusiasts, but any comments and ideas are more than welcome.

Cheers Steven.

Honestly, It's your car and if you think it would look better and you can do this, then, by all means, get the work done.

Just show the photos afterwards.
Only working half a day now.

Have you got the double bumper model? European style bumpers look great on the Mk3.
Just hammer/straighten the old bumper out, polish up and put silver paint on the denty bare metal bits.
Then get a Jag project from copart with the $2K.

Leave it as it is and drive without the bumpers?

I have actually been thinking about polished aluminium bumpers, a restyled minimalist stainless bumper. When less is more, is none the best?

Hey!!! You! The bumpers are back on the car, for your information. At least for now. Main reason is that I have to MOT the car this spring. Can‘t decide whether to leave them on or not. My wheels clash with my bumpers, stylistically speaking :D I admire Colin for being so tolerant though.

You should try to modify them Felix get them closer in to the bodywork the result could be amazing lots of the guys in the usa do this and the results are so clean

Then again as some insist, is it not that less is a bore (Venturi)? Conversely if you‘re going to quote Mies, then I should add that form follows function, and more importantly that ornament is a crime (Loos). :D

All it needs is the dark stripe now. :D Seriously Felix you have repositioned the online image of the CV8 as more sporting. Young kids on social media are seeing your CV8 in the many pictures online, in the mountains and on the track, and thinking it is fantastic. No joke.

Thank you, John. All the praise goes to the cars, we‘re just the ones lucky enough to be sitting in them.
