MY 1972 JENSEN INTERCEPTOR ONE DAY AT A TIME!
MY 1972 JENSEN INTERCEPTOR ONE DAY AT A TIME!
Dear Members,
I am in the process of bringing my Interceptor back to life, after it has been sitting for 10 years
in my friends garage.
We are nearly done with the preparation and hopefully by the end of this week we can fire it up !
In California you can choose your own black vanity plates for the car and so I chose SMD100K as my
new Ca license plate number as the car in the UK would have been a K reg, they should arrive within a week.
I would like to buy/order some authentic style black UK plates with the same number SMD100K in black with silver letters
and numbers to place on the car.
Can they still make these plates in the UK or do they no longer make license plates unless they are going onto a legitimate UK vehicle ?
Is there anyone here in the US that makes black/silver "fake plates " for display only on British cars ?
Any advise or comments are welcome.
Regards Cheers Steven.

Re: MY 1972 JENSEN INTERCEPTOR ONE DAY AT A TIME!
There were unregistered suppliers in the UK on ebay that would supply the old black style plates as recently as 2017, without any paperwork. These seem to have gone now.

Re: MY 1972 JENSEN INTERCEPTOR ONE DAY AT A TIME!
Dear Members,
I applied for some California plates in black and yellow, months ago.
I thought how about my initials SMD and say 3 numbers 100 and K for 1972
so we have SMD100K !
The DMV refused my plate number saying it was offensive ?
After a few letters going back and forward, I can not have my initials SMD
as the DMV says it also stands for SUCK MY D..K lol !
The DMV said it looks like SUCK MY D..K LOOK
They refunded my money and suggested another plate as SMD will never be allowed.
I already bought the UK plates in anticipation of the matching Ca plates and the UK plates
are so much nicer than these Ca Penitentiary produced plates.
Any ideas , it is always fun in the land of the sun !!
Have a great week !
Cheers Steven.

Gosh, only in America,... you could always reapply with an explanation of why you choose those letters explaining its an English car and you wish to replicate the licence plate number as it was in England back in the seventies also enclosing a photo.. You never know your luck
Only working half a day now.

The ultimate "personalised" registration number in the UK is to have your initials with the number 1 either following or preceding the initials. Bearing in mind your previous posting about SMD, perhaps you might apply for 1 SMD and see what the DMV make of that!
But perhaps you could go for INT 440K (interceptor 440 K) or JEN 440 K.

Or just lose the "M".
No need to buy new plates, all you'd need is a small tin of black paint and a brush.
Seen in Birmingham yesterday; 101 NCH.
I guess he paid a lot for that (much more than he would have done for 31 NCH).

Invest in a Jensen they said, they're not making them anymore.
Re: MY 1972 JENSEN INTERCEPTOR ONE DAY AT A TIME!
Dear Colin 7673,
I did exactly that, sent a photo of the UK plates plus a photo of my drivers license showing my initials SMD
and they still said no. No use of SMD in the future.
Dear Dave C,
I have a can of flat black paint, good idea.
Dear Chris R,
I thought SMD 1 may be a little pretentious and so I did not try those letters and number, besides no more SMD !
Thanks for all your comments.
Cheers Steven.

Re: MY 1972 JENSEN INTERCEPTOR ONE DAY AT A TIME!
When I read your post and looked at the number plate, I couldn't see anything suggestive, offensive no matter how I looked at or read it.
How strange to think SMD means suck my d**k!
Is it a common abbreviation in the USA??? Or just in the mind of people issuing registration numbers??
Perhaps just go for "Jensen" instead?

Apropos of offensive number plates, here’s erstwhile motorcycle racer and practical joker Steve Parrish’s Merc at Thruxton:

Not appropriate for a Jensen, but well placed on an RV..!!
