While I know this is a sore subject I thought I would post something I found while away in New Zealand over the new year, because even though, with the then exchange rate, their fuel worked out cheaper than ours they are complaining about the high cost of their fuel.
These costings are for the NZ Dollar., per liter
Product Cost 37%
International Shipping 2%
Carbon 2%
Taxes 44%
Operating Costs & Margins 15%
This was NZD2.13 per ltr = £1.12
It might be the same breakdown per ltr here.

Re: Fuel Prices
Hi Colin, I hope you had a good trip! Bit different to Lincolnshire!! - I was born in Sleaford and went to school in Grantham!
Yes we do complain about the prices here - who wouldn't when you consider US prices!!
Where were you for these prices? i don't know if you were aware but the Auckland region has an additional 11.5 cents per litre tax!!
Interested to hear what you thought of the roads? I think as soon as you get off a main road they are pretty poor which makes me more disappointed in the tax burden.
