Hi all

Has any one looked at getting a ferry?
The only one I could find will not take cars.
And it was two grand return mid August.

It mite be that none have been released yet.
So I looked for this year and still no luck.

With the ferry from Hull to Rotterdam over night.
Then drive from Rotterdam to Oslo is 886 miles.
At a rough cost of £300.00 working at £5.00 pound a gallon.
But from memory Denmark, Sweden and Norway prices where £9.00 to £11.00 per gallon.
So the above figure will more than double.

P&O are in “talks” with the Scottish government about a direct ferry from Scotland to Norway.. But at the moment that’s all it is,, The Scottish government contacted P&O because they feel a direct route would be good for their economy,,, The last thing I read about this was that P&O are waiting untill 29th March before making a commitment,, But then there are still no guarantees..

I have also contact Stena about the possibility of doing a deal where we use two boats, Harwich to Hook then again with them from Denmark to Oslo but like many companies at the moment they haven’t returned my email... But not is all lost, there is a travel agent in town that specialised in ferry companies so I will pop in there and find out costing for different crossing and let you know..

One more thing to ponder for you all.......
It is possible to jump ship before the northermost destination, thereby cutting short both the boat trip and the return drive. If you disembark in Trondheim it is about seven hours drive back to Oslo. Personally I consider Tromsoe to be a must and a good compromise. The return to Oslo taking time to do the sights taking four days. Obviously it can be done in two days but that will not leave any time for really enjoying the trip. (Two people driving in shifts can do it in 24 hours but that is a pain.)

Just about Horst . In fact we have a cottage in the mountains near Bergen and that particular spot holds the rain record for Norway for the months of June & July. Go figure.......

The oldest joke about the rain goes like this: A tourist in Bergen asks a local school boy "Does it always rain in Bergen?" The boy answers "I don't know, I am only eight years old."

August is often good though.
