Rover 3500 air conditioning

Post by Dion »

Attention Tony Marshall :D

The air conditioning specs for the Rover 3500 P6 I picked up last week. Today I received the brand NOS WSM for it, still in Rover Company cardboard box from 1976. It contains a chapter on air conditioning.
With AC, these cars were fitted with a unique lower dashboard panel, containing two rotational AC switches. In the middle of the panel there is a large plastic rectangular cap. When removed there is a big hole, beneath it the scripts "window" (invisible with the cap mounted). Presumably here the electric window switches were fitted, which were a standard fitment to the NADA exported cars (North America). What I find interesting is that already in 1969 Rover fitted electric windows to the USA but even seven years later never bothered to fit them, not even as an option, to European cars. Why not? Too expensive? They gave too much trouble?
