Its nice to see some lively opinions and points of view about the JH. I don't advocate suppressing values, but equally I don't agree with pushing values up either, the JH will appreciate with time, may be not as fast as other cars for various reasons but my key objective with my previous post was to introduce into the discussion of wanting higher valuations, the idea that there may be negative consequence on club membership. Something which has started to be observed, but I think "NHK10P" hit one of the big nails on the head when he said "The difficulty for the JOC attracting members is that it must compete against the MG and TR 2 seaters that are very much better catered for and promoted in their respective Clubs", particularly that last bit about better promoted in their respective clubs.

If the club is concerned about membership, then in my opinion they could look at getting the whole club (including non-JH owners) to buy into the idea that it may be a good thing to promote the JH as a good 2 seater to own. I think for quite some time the JH has not always been viewed with the same value to the club as other Jensens by non-JH owners in the club, may be it was just that it was a very different proposition to all previous Jensens, may be it was something else. Again my opinion, but if other clubs are still gaining members at a rate that our club wishes to aspire to, then what are they doing, if the JH is still a lesser known 2 seater, then the more that we all promote it as an option, the more it will be viewed attractively. But of course for everyone to promote it, they need to be educated about why we think it is so good, so how about a magazine article or two explaining what advantages the JH has over the competition or at least why we bought them and continue to run them.

In an age when cars are more and more technical and less and less people maintain their own cars themselves, then any new prospective buyer/club member is going to want a known or recommended quantity, than an unknown quantity, because new/younger people these days tend to have less technical knowledge, so I think that we need to appeal to that with recommendations and re-assurance from the whole club at any event or outing. Again just my opinion.

All the best

Stuart Alan´s J-H is not in the picture as it was being repaired by a friendly German enthusiast who welded up the gearstick bracket for Stuart during the HJGH Autumn weekend in Ostfriesland, Germany.

At the moment there are 60 Jensen-Healeys officially registered in the Netherlands. There are also a number of cars that are not registered, being donor cars or special products. 6 of the registered cars are probably original Dutch registered looking at the registration numbers. The total number sold new to the Netherlands is 8 or 12, depending on the source. The first and the last J-H sold in the Netherlands are now in Belgium so the survival rate is very high at at least 66%.
Apparently the popularity has grown because of the large amount of importedJ-H´s, most from the USA presumably.

I'm not sure good looks has too much bearing on prices, lets face it, the cv8 was once described as the ugliest car in the world( I don't think so!), now look where they are. The interceptor has always looked fabulous, but only in the last few years has prices really sky-rocketed. I do think the Healey has been largely forgotten, especially by the younger enthusiast, who may be swayed by seeing so many more popular sports cars, then plumping for one of them instead. I think it is great there are still classics like the Healey out there. Before I bought the cv8, I had always lusted after the Borgward Isabella Coupe, another car forgotten up until a few years ago, now out of my price range.
I agree that sometimes the lower value classics do not always get the big money spent on them, but restoration costs have nearly always exceeded final value prices anyway, and there will always be those like most of us that do it because we love the cars we drive, not for the profit to be made.

I agree that a Jensen-Healey (and GT) only road run/rally could be a good thing to set the model apart in its own right.
We had started thinking of such a run in the week preceding LM Classic this year, but I for one was too busy preparing cars to help organize it!
We are hoping to have a June 2019 run with JOC France (open to all models) and I’ll Be working on ideas shortly with Nigel Pickford.
Why not aim for a well honed trip for 2020? Let us Healey aficionados try and get the greatest number together for a tour in the Morbihan and across towards Le Mans ( with a stop over here in Vitré to visit my “workshop/museum” which should be well sorted by then!)?
We have in our hands an as yet untapped potential great 70’s classic, maybe its time to share the secret!
I feel sure certain classic magazines would be keen to cover such an event, as they seem to favor road trip type articles these days!
As previously stated who cares what they’re worth as long as we can keep blasting them through the countryside?!!
Maybe worth a specific post on this subject?

Propagate the marque and the model! Two members over here take their Healeys to hill climbs and rallyes and are among the most active within the Swiss Jensen community. Take them to meets and shows. Drive them regularly...
