Interceptor paint formulas

Post by toonkojak »

I am desperately looking for the following Interceptor paint formulas. I don't need paint codes, as I have them already (they are available in Ric's book for example), but as these codes are no longer in use it is not possible to recreate the correct colour according to the code only (I've already been trough this trying to recreate Royal Blue, Havana and Brasilia Brown - modern non-led based pigments at the very end give completely different results than original sample).

I was wondering if anyone resprayed the car in the past in one of these colours and could provide me with the formula used. Alternatively maybe somebody has a sample, I could borrow or a factory paint swatch, which I could use to decode the formula using spectrophotometry.

1. Nevis Blue, ACR 31102/M
2. Reef Blue, M031 3435
3. Pacific Blue, GL 29637V or M030 8972
4. Saba Blue, GIP 31101/M or ACR 31101/M
5. Brienz Blue, M030 4715
6. Oatmeal, M030 8970
7. Metallic Fawn, P031 2165
8. Copper Brown, P031 3473
9. Oakland Green, M030 3133
10. Claret, no code given

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Am I Nobel or Sikkens has these formulas. It is an international Chemical company and 300 years old. If you have a problem PM me. Raver Joe

I got a smile out of that one too!

Racer Joe is a buddy of mine, and he knows what he is talking about when it comes to painting ‘top of the line’ cars, like the Watson-Simonize Special Indy Car!

Note: At one time this was the fastest car in the world!

Sills s has a color map of books in colors shades and hues which will allow you to dial in colors if you can find a good representation of the color to start with. Racer Joe

More info on colore. See if the other manufacturers have color library. That is your best bet to get an update on a cross reference on a modern formula. Back to the late 60’s early mid 70’s is really not that far back. Some of the older paint supply houses should have cross overs for these colors. Good luck. RacerJoe

In the case of my Metallic Fawn FF, Colin Holley of CH Auto's, mixes the paint himself to make the closest match possible.
I expect that he keeps his formula to himself, as he no doubt spent considerable time making it just the right shade of colour.
I have been told, by people who know / remember how Metallic Fawn should look, that mine is as close as anything to being correct.
An original car or painted colour swatch to copy might be the only way to make the correct paint.
