There's a whale outside

For the last nearly 30 years, I have worked in 3 different office buildings on The Terrace in Wellington, each with varying views of the harbour between the wharves and across to Oriental Bay.

I never thought I'd get to say this, but we've all been sat watching an enormous whale sploshing about out from Shed 5. We went down and took photos on phones but they didn't turn out very well - so here are a couple of proper camera ones taken a bit further along.

Boo - the whale has finally swum off, back out to sea.
Still, we had more than a week of its antics - which led to a lot of traffic jams (it's school holidays here, so No 1 activity involved all the Mums driving into town at once and trying to park) and even the City Council cancelling the municipal fireworks display. They thought the whale wouldn't like it!

We had a whale in the Thames in 2006... not quite as impressive as yours!!

If that's the Houses of Parliament, that's miles upstream from the sea though!!!!

Yes, it got all the way up to Battersea before rescuers managed to turn it around
