Random question cos you guys are great!

Post by timmo »

Yes, not Jensen related but does anyone know anyone who can repair my gearbox ecu on the 1992 bmw 750 I have, theres power going in, and no signals coming out. I would post on Bimmer forums, but they are so slowwwwwww replying to anything! Bmw do list a new one but it is £1000!!! I can't find a used on for love nor money, surely they can't be that complicated?

Look at http://www.ecutesting.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
They rebuild certain ECUs from £250 + 20%VAT.

Fraid not, mines an E32. The didn't seem to make many 750,s. They were far too expensive! Contacted ecutesting, they seem hopeful they can fix it, or I'll have to hide the invoice from BMW from the missus......

Well found, Steve.
And when you search with that part number, they pop up all over the place, as the same part appears to have been used on the much-more-common BMW 740 with the V8 engine.
And so cheap you could buy an extra one as a spare.

This is remarkable, how we've gone from £1,000 to £250, then to about £50 for the same part!

This can make all the difference between deciding to scrap a vehicle, or to keep it running.
I know of an e38 BMW 750 nearby where the owner is baulking at the price the BMW 'specialist' wants for a new engine ECU, so I doubt that he's done a proper search for a used part.

For German car parts, another tip is to go to ebay.de, and search the part number.

That is how I found it, if you want to give yourself more choices tick search in description as well.

I once found a Neutral switch for a Kawasaki triple brand new in its box, the problem was it was in Italy and the seller did not speak English. It was so rare people were paying £100 for used ones, I paid 18 Euro's and 12 Euros postage :D

Part arrived from Germany within the week, I thought Great! Shame it doesn't fit. Seems my 750 was a special order with extra gizmos, not a run of the mill 750 so Bmw decided to put a near on unique gearbox ecu in it.. Luckily they do have a replacement new one.- at an eye-watering price of course. :(

Any want a 750 gearbox ecu going cheap?
