Matrix Heater hoses
Good evening all
heater hoses
I removed the larger one and put a new 16mm hose form the front of the engine back to the valve under the front bulk head, the hose from the valve down and round into the matrix looks in poor condition and perished and me pulling and pushing hasn't helped its condition
The other one the 1/2 inch hose is the problem it was joined half way along the rocker cover and I thought i would cut it at the end of the rocker and join it OOOPS
the further back it went the harder and more brittle it became i tried to put the joiner back in and all that happened was that it just cracked and split
OK so now really should be the time to replace it all
has anyone got any advice on how to get to the 2 jubilee clips over the top of the bell housing i can just touch them but no chance of seeing them i've had a camera down there to look but !!!
any quick or easy ways please ?
i expect i know the answer
thanks
David

Re: Matrix Heater hoses
Hi David
There's no easy way of doing it I'm afraid to say.
I used a nut spinner from the centre of the engine.
If you can't shift them cut them off so as not to damage the matrix.
If you can fit silicon hoses and stainless clips to make it easy next time.

That’s what I did, along with much swearing and skinning of knuckles!

Re: Matrix Heater hoses
A Dremel with a flexible drive can be used to cut the old jubilee clips off with some patience.

I did mine many years ago and all I remember was it was a pain! A mini air powered ratchet will help tighten the new hose clamps when you get to that stage. Have been doing this stuff my whole life (a long time) and have never hears of a jubilee clip. What type of clamp are you referring too?

Re: Matrix Heater hoses
This is a Jubilee clip. You probably call them worm drive or something similar but over here on this side of the pond they are called a jubilee clip.

That was a question I'd never asked so I had to look it up!

Jubilee® Clips were manufactured as the first worm drive hose clamp in 1921, the company held the first patent for worm drive hose clips and has been manufacturing hose clips in Great Britain ever since. The name Jubilee® Clip remains a registered trademark throughout the world.

Re: Matrix Heater hoses
I'll put my anorak on here.
Jubilee clip is a brand, and is actually specific to the type that has the worm part only partially along the length of the clip. I used to know (sadly no longer with us)the chap who patented it with the worm part all around the clip, which is more useful and how the majority of them are now, and instantly became a multi- millionaire. That's all it takes a slight twist on an original idea. No real name for them, usually called hose clips or band clamps.

Re: Matrix Heater hoses
Just google “flexible jubilee clip screwdriver”, very handy tool to have in your toolbox, as the flexibility works well in tight spaces.
